OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

He is part of the crew, his job is decribed as keeping everything on the upper deck in working order for safe incoming/outgoing flight crew

Rabbitchick, is he actually part of the crew of the GW, or is he with an air wing that is assigned to the GW?
Comment by Rabbitchick2010 on July 24, 2010 at 12:32am
My husbands rate is Airman but he has told me nothing more than that.

Thanks so much ladies......at least I don't feel so alone in my lack of contact. Kelcie has a new sweetie also, and I do know that they had plans to make the most out of the port call, so I'm sure that has something to do with the limited contact the past few days :>)

Rabbitchick.....this definitely rates a contact via the GW Ombudsman. I'm kind of thinking that the next week or so might be an exceptionally hard time to make contact, but I would get it initiated ASAP!!! What is new hubby's rate? Since you are new to the Navy "rate" means job. Maybe one of us has a sailor that is the same rate as him, and we can help get the word to him that he NEEDS to contact you ASAP. We don't disclose full names via this website, but we can arrange to connect on regular email to exchange specifics if need be.

I haven't heard a word from my husband in nearly 3 weeks and I need to get word to him because I think I might be expecting. He left in middle June and has yet to send any info on how to reach him. The base won't give me any info because I'm not a dependent in his paperwork yet, but I'm in his paperwork as an emergency contact, so I don't understand what's going on with that, any ideas from you ladies?

I think we will all be glad when this exercise is over. My sailor was supposed to have liberty the last few days they were in port, but I haven't heard a word. I get an email almost everyday, and not even that since they pulled in????? Anybody else experiencing the same thing?
Thomas's mom....I sent my email last night. I will let you know the SECOND I hear anything. As far as I know, he has done strictly criminal type trials, but hopefully he will have some inside advise at least.

Masue... both N. Korea and China have been puffing their chests out BIG TIME, ever since it was 1st announced that the GW was going to take part in the maneuvers. I hope and pray that neither one is really stupid enough to try something, but I have cautioned my sailor to STAY ALERT just in case. I have to say that I am glad that our government didn't back down from sending the GW over to participate, as that would have sent a VERY bad message ie: that we were intimidated by the threats. We've all gotta keep them in our prayers as they participate, that's for darn sure.

Thomas' Mom,
Have him check with L3 Communications. Also there are a couple head hunter companies that deal with Military. They are: Orion International and Lucas Group.
It does not cost Thomas anything only the company that hires him. But if he wants to go to school...He might want to do that first. If he foes to school under the Post 9/11 GI Bill he will get a stipend of @1300.00 a month depending on where the college is that he wants to go to. Plus tution is paid. And if he can find a school that is a yellow ribbon school.

Thomas'Mom.....don't know anyone who needs an airframer, BUT I DO have a nephew who is a JAG officer in the Air Force. If I'm not mistaken, Navy pretty much covers the medical arm of the military and Air Force covers the legal. He is currently a defense attorney, and prior to that was a prosecutor. Haven't ever heard of him doing anything "internal", but you can bet your bottom dollar that as soon as I finish this post, he will be getting an email from me. I will certainly pick his brain for ANY info he might have that might be helpful. The Air Force keeps him running all over the country, so can't guarantee that I will get a quick response from him, but the inquiring on my part will be immediate. I'll let you know ANYTHING I find out. So glad that Mary mentioned this, as it never even crossed my mind.
