Kelly's Aunt, Thomas's mom is right, if you can find out what her job is, one of us is bound to have someone in the same department and we could let you know what Box number to send mail to. My daughter is an MA. Let us know, as we'd be more than happy to help.

My sister and I have not heard from my niece since the ship deployed from Japan in June and we are wondering how things are going. She graduated from boot camp in March 2010 and went to Japan so this is her first time at sea. A few of the graduates had paperwork that got messed up so they did not get to come home first.

Not sure if they can send emails or if they have to have calling cards to use the phones on the ship to call home. And we don't know her mailing address. We don't know who to contact to get her mailing address or any information. Her recruiter changed jobs and moved out of our area.

Any information would be very helpful to set our minds at ease.

Thanks : )

Hi all, Kelcie said that at least half of the phones they can use to call home don't work. She said she was calling from a "bank" of 9 phones, but only 3 of them worked, so I'm sure the lines are awful. I did see the option to have the cards sent directly to the sailor, but I was a little hesitant to do that. I had them sent here and will include them in my next package. Kelcie uses the computers in the library to email home. You might mention this option to your sailor. I know that she also has access when she is in "admin" or working in dispatch, but I would guess that different jobs have different access in their work area.

Just got my 1st ship to shore phone call :>) :>) I had just been looking at the phone card link below, so I confirmed with Kelcie that this was the correct card. She thought you could only buy them on board. But we compared everything, and it all looked the same, so I ordered a couple to put in my next care package to her.

Okay ladies, here's the scoop on the cell service offered on base. Kelcie said that she pays $40.00 a month for her softbank plan, and it has unlimited calling to the US for that price. The other phone that she had bought prior to the softbank one costs her 70-80 dollars a month, it has unlimited texting to the US, and it is the one she uses to call back an forth to her friends on base. She also uses it to access the internet. PLUS, the 70-80 dollars a month INCLUDES her payment for the purchase of her iphone. She said that she thought that you could get the softbank phone "tweaked" to include coverage on base, but since she was already committed to the plan that she had used to purchase her iphone, she didn't want to pay softbank for duplicate services. She said that the other phone providers are AU and Documo, but she didn't say which one she had purchased her iphone and the 1st plan from.

Thomas' Mom,
OH trust me I know how mad you are. When someone screws with your child, to me, ALL BETS ARE OFF.

Soccer: I have been looking at options for calling cards for our sailors. Here is a general link for military calling cards. To find the "Ship to Shore" calling cards, state that you want to purchase a military calling card. You will find them in the list of options. Let me know how you make out. This program is to encourage the general public to support our troops and to help them be able to call home. There's no discount for multiple cards. :-(

Thomas' Mom,
Can't you get SEN Mccain involved on them trying to seperate him? I can not see how they can get away with implementing something that does not take effect till July 1st. This really PISSES me off.

Hi all, Kelcie said that yes, THEY have to purchase the calling cards that work while on board. As far as she knows, the ones that we could buy stateside won't do the trick :>(

soccercyn.....I'm not positive, but I think that THEY have to buy the calling cards that they use when they are aboard ship. If anyone out there knows for sure whether regular calling cards that can be purchased stateside will work, please let me know, as I would like to include one in my next care package if indeed they can use them.
