OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

NavyFAM is correct in what she says, both the GW Ombudsman and the GWFRG ask you a few questions to verify your legit, and if you don't answer you can't be added to their email lists, but it does not affect email with YOUR sailor.
Tam...I know that Kelcie got a "full" passport so that she could get full access to liberty at all ports of call. I had to mail it to her, and was a little antsy, but like you was afraid to send it certified mail, so sent it regular mail and she got it fine.
BigDMom.........LOVE your Sailor on a Stick.......what a fun idea :>) My sailor would probably say "mom....you are SUCH a dork", but she would laugh her butt off !!!

grandma.....this is indeed a great way for us to support each other. It's wonderful to have a way to connect with others who are going thru the same thing as we are. The vast majority of ladies on here are a great group!!!

If the FRG and the Ombudsman have sent emails and posted on FB, then it is ok to discuss here. Nothing is being compromised not even OPSEC. Been at this longer than 11 years.

Ladies, here are the addresses to sign up for both the Ombudsman and gwfrg73@yahoo.com
gw3ombudsman@yahoo.com
email them and ask to be put on their contact list. They will send you regular emails, and they also have facebook pages as well.

Mollie...I have been at this for 11 years and just make it a good habit not to post the time and date at anytime here. I realize the Navy puts it out at the right time, but not all newbies contain themselves and post it here. So good rule of thumb is not to.

Karyn, when both the GW Ombudsman and the GW FRG post on their facebook page the time and date that the ship is due in, then it is OFFICIALLY okay for public discussion. Will post both of those links here in just a little bit ladies :>) I got a phone call saying "I see Japan" :>) :>)

Understood, Ginny! How wonderful will it be not to keep track of time zones.

Oh, I do look for the time when the GW is in port so hopefully there can be a Skype chat!

Be sure and read the discussion on Visitor's Pass when staying at Navy Lodge! That one was so helpful and allowed us to come and go without our sailor. We had no problems once we had that pass. We had it all filled out and approvals prior to arrival.

Bhappy...did you call the Navy Lodge directly or did you use the 800 number. From experience it does make a difference. The 800 number where you book all the Navy lodges says it is booked everytime. But when I called directly I was able to book 30 days out. A couple other moms from here it was the same thing. Check above under discussions where it says View All. There is a discussion about it. Hope this helps
