OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

BZ, Katlanta, on your son's accomplishment. Given the number of sailors on board, that is quite an accomplishment!

My son just sent me a email about an hour ago from the ship.

Soccer, I don't think I would put the passport in with a care package. I would think it less likely that a letter would be misplaced than a package. In addition, you could send the letter certified mail which would give extra protection.

Mollie, thanks for the note about e-mail being turned off. It makes lack of e-mail less worrisome. I suspect it is as hard on the sailors as it is on us.

Why do they turn off email access? Don't they understand what that does to us moms?
Comment by Mollie...Kelcies Mom on June 1, 2010 at 9:37pm
Hi soccercyn27.. You have it right, just don't need to put his "Division" I think that the box number denotes that info. Just be sure to fill out the customs document carefully. That way there is less chance of them opening the package, and something (like the passport) getting misplaced. I had to ship Kelcie her's a while back, and it is kind of a scary thing.

Hi All, got an email from Kelcie sent a couple of hours ago. She said that they were going to be turning off email access "for a while". Didn't know how long, but if you are like me, I check it the second I get up in the morning, the second I get home from work, and the last thing before I go to bed. So don't get to feeling blue if you don't hear from your sailor for "a while"....whatever that means.
Yes Tam....they do have a library on board, and I'm sure that they pass their books around to each other. Assume it's not a very big library, so maybe the kids donate their books after they read them to expand the selection.
Thomas's mom.....I'm wondering the same as momof2+. Has he heard anything final yet?? The waiting has got to be AWFULL!!!!

Thomas Mom,
I have not seen you post in a few days and wondering how things are going.
