OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

TAM,
What about getting her the little dohickey that she can download books to read. I believe Barnes & Noble has it.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY! Thank you to our sailors and their families, past and present, for what they do so we can do what we do!

Karen....for letters and such, you just use regular U.S. postage. For packages, those flat rate boxes are the only way to go. If your post office doesn't have the APO/FPO boxes, you can use the regular flat rate boxes, and they will only charge you the APO/FPO rate.

Kelcie said that they can buy things aboard using a "Navy cash" card. I guess they buy them like a gift card, then use them while at sea. Don't know if you have to buy them before they leave port or not. I did ask her what types of things they can buy on board. Will pass the info on if she answers. But I'm QUITE sure that they LOVE the packages that come with TLC, even if they could get the stuff themselves.

Yeah Karen, this is a WONDERFUL site. The GW also has a facebook page. They post pictures almost daily. I'm sure we all scour it looking for our own :>) I wish I had known about this site before she left for bootcamp. Another interesting thing you might want to look into is the PBS series "Carrier" you can buy it on DVD at PBS.com for about $40.00. It was really neat, and helped us get a "picture" of what Kelcie's life aboard would be like.

Hi ladies, I hear from Kelcie almost every day, but they tend to be short n sweet also. They work about 14 hour shifts from what I gather. Don't do much other than eat, sleep, laundry, and maybe a little work out time, then zzzzzz's and start it all over again. She said that she really does like it though. Her buddies make it all worth while.

So Kelcie said that they had some tornado's forming and attempting to form around them yesterday. She said it was really cool to see. Evidently they didn't present any type of danger.
