For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

And there's nothing to do on the ship so its totally boring. Can anyone give me any information about what goes on on the ship. I mean things that we can talk about lol

Comment by Nangirl44 on January 2, 2015 at 9:51am: They can join a ship during deployment. My Sailor's buddy did this. He'll fly to nearby area & join the ship. The nice thing about this, is that there is a shorter deployment for your son. Congratulations on your new Sailor & best wishes for him in his Navy career!

Comment by kim on January 2, 2015 at 9:15am: my son has orders to deploy on the USS Iwo Jima after he finishes a pact school at Pensacola which will be around the 1st of February. Is this even possible since the ship has already deployed? I'm really confused.

They can be "reloaded" via the 800 number on it. Also helpful is a stick-on LED for the rack (berthing). Some sailors like to get a light mattress topper for their rack, too.

You can order a NavyRackPack curtain for his rack that sailors love - they block the light and have pockets for extra storage for alarm clock etc. Order from Pat (the owner) at http://www.navyrackpacks.com. They were just approved by the command. If you have questions, call her at 855-722-5722 or email pat@navyrackpacks.com.

Letters and care packages can take from two weeks on up, just depends on replenishment schedules. You can order a free pack of 10 or 25 large (12"x12"x6") flat-rate boxes specifically designed for mailing to FPO addresses at https://store.usps.com/store/browse/uspsProductDetailMultiSkuDropDo...

With deployment ahead and OPSEC observation is starting in earnest, the best resource right now for certain specific questions is the ombudsman team at iwoombudsman@gmail.com.

Then you need to PM me to give all that wonderful info to me as well! I feel in the dark about some of this. Such as what should my sailor bring with him that would be difficult to buy on ship (stamps, envelopes, writing paper, etc). How long does it take for his first letter to get to me? How long does it take for my first letter or package to reach him? How many ports will he be allowed to visit once they dock? (that is if they don't have dog-duty). How long do they typically stay in port? How would he sign up for tours? Thanks to all!
