Lani: I think most of the info we have to share with you all is up in the discussions above, so please be sure to review all of those, if you haven't already. After reading them, if you have more specific questions, please post them on here.
Trisha is "right on" about how they fly out. Your sailor can get you a gate pass (with you present with ID) to wait at the gate with him/her until their flight. You meet up at the USO at Ohare (before security) or if at Midway, before security since USO is past security. Like Trisha said, that is also where you give them their personal "stuff" that will hopefully fit in their Navy-issued backpack.
We suggest that you all drop off your sailors at RTC on PIR night, then head to the hotel for a nap before heading to the airports. Be sure to ask your sailor which airport! Important! They will be bussed out in the wee hours to wait for flights.
FTLW and any other who has already been through this....is there anything else we don't know about? Luckily you have informed us PIR, meet and greets, pictures, ribbons, scarves and now the division T-shirts. Thank you! Anything else we're missing or ignorant about???? I can't imagine how the families are coping that aren't on Navyformoms!
Let me know if you go camo-mom and I'll join you. Lol. My son is only 18 and it's tough to not hear anything. I'm thankful I got 3 letters on Thursday. I try not to think about it and just go through the motions. Trying to keep busy. All travel arrangements have been made, ribbons ordered and now I'm busy crocheting scarves. Only 25 more days. We can do this! It's exciting to know when we see them again, they will be young men! And hopefully mine will be a better brother to his little sister! Angelwetz.....you said it great....we are moms and it is our job to worry :) Luckily we have this site to get support and understanding and not lectured!!!! :)
Oh good, sounds like a lot are going to SC. That will be nice for them!
hehe - I understand. my husband hasn't called in two weeks, and i didn't get a letter last week. I'm kinda freaking out myself. Hoping for the best. and yes..no new is good news. :)
If we hear anything we'll let you know. Inbox me your sons name - and if my husband calls I'll ask him about your son. :)
@Noemi My SR told me that they would be flying out Saturday sometime - and in the RTC Family handbook on the website, it says the same thing. That we get Friday after PIR. We have to take them back between 8 and 9. They get to sleep at some point, and wake up around 3am to head to the airport. The handbook and my SR told me that the time of flight won't be known until the day of I think - possibly PIR - but we cant drive them to the airport at 3am BUT we ARE allowed to meet them at the airport and sit with them until their flight. My husband asked me to do this - and since our men are going to the same place and i would assume on the same flight - but we'll figure that out - but if thats the case you are welcome to ride with me to the airport. :) :)
