Diannep I still feel for her and that long drive, over 1200 miles and more than a 20 hour drive without any traffic delays. I think I would have to make that a 3 days trip if I couldn't fly lol. I just hate being in a car for that long and I hate traffic delays. I hope she has a great trip up there and can enjoy the drive :-)
Hi all, I wrote a little jingle/song this morning and thought I would share it with everyone so it will be stuck in your heads too lol. It is to the tune of Santa Clause is coming to town. I hope you like it, It won't be long until you are packing and going to PIR :) even though it feels like a long time. I hope it passes quickly.
They’re Makin' a list, Checkin' it twice,
Gonna see their Sailor, It's really really nice,
Navy Moms are coming to town
They're bringing the wives, girlfriends too,
Gonna be crying through Pass In Review,
Navy Moms are comin' to town
They've stalked the local mailman,
Facebooked and Tweeted too,
They've learned the rules of OPSEC
and made lifelong friends here too.
Oh, you better dress warm, the weather is cold,
You better wear your ribbons of silver and gold
Navy Moms are coming to town ;-)

Lala< She is not in S. Florida like I am and where you vacationed. THAT is the awful drive. She is actually near Clearwater, so that lops off a bunch of time. Just driving from S. FL to the state line of GA takes about 7 hours from here! UGH! Won't take her that long from Clearwater.
Amy< We recommend that you all book your return on Sunday if possible. My son went to A School in Mississippi. Flew out the next day (after PIR). Yours most likely will too. BUT, remember....you can spend time at the airport with him on Saturday. They bus them there in the wee hours of Sat morning to wait for flights. So you can head out there, he can get you a gate pass from the airlines, and you can actually wait at the gate with him. It is very special time...and so wonderful to see all of the sailors together like that. They are very respected in the Chicago airports...and many times get standing ovations when they are told they can board! Once he leaves, you all can spend the rest of Saturday sightseeing in the city, and head back on Sunday.
We recommend that you all fly into Milwaukee, if possible. On Southwest. No change fee, 2 bags ship for free. Drive to GL is easy (no traffic like Chicago has)...about a 45 minute drive - interstate. My son was asmoed when there (setback) for a week so we had to change. I didn't know about Milwaukee then nor Southwest. sigh...had to pay the change fee. But saved a little because new flights were cheaper. Halved the change fee (well, seemed like it).
You don't want to miss any time with your sailor!
My son's PIR is scheduled for February 3, 2012. I want to make plane reservations, should I assume he will be available to spend time with us for the weekend? I don't want to miss a minute with him but I also don't want to be stuck there if he is leaving the next day. Is there anyway to find out when each A school begins? He's going to one in Mississippi.
it's way too early. X_x hehe. Hope everyone slept well! :)
It is a really long drive from FL. I did it from NC and it took 16 hours for what was supposed to be a 12 hour drive. I suggest making it a two day trip and spending the night somewhere along the way. Or at least have more than one driver. It was way too much for me doing all the driving myself.
Camo Mom: I would delete your post since you disclosed your personal email address there. Because of what FTLW posted...this is a public forum. Even those who are not members can "google" and pull up these pages. I received your "message to group" with this info...that is the is the preferred way to share info like this.
Also, since your SR is in a Spec Ops division, you need to be very careful about piks you post and info you provide on your page. It is important to protect all personal info with these Spec Ops SRs/sailors!
Just hit the "x" in the corner of the box you posted in and it will disappear! You can repost without your personal email address.
Good morning, everyone!
We are in Florida and plan to drive up. Looking at hotels now. Thanks for all of the suggestions and information everyone.
You can also make your Profile Page (My Page - third tab over at the very top under the N4M banner) viewable only to your friends. There are other privacy settings too.
Go to ; "Settings". Setttings is over to the far right underneath your username where you sign out of N4M's.
Click it. Once it takes you there...this is your Profile page where you can change your picture, username, about me comments etc. to the left is a list...now click Privacy...read through and change your settings to how you would like them.
If you need to change your URL - Web Address - you can do this on the My Page heading on the list. I recommend this if you had your last name on your username but have changed it. The URL is automatically set with whatever username you first chose when you joined N4M's.
This is my web address:
http://www.navyformoms.com/profile/FTLW
it originally looked like this
http://www.navyformoms.com/profile/fireteamwife
Once you change it though...the previous one won't work if you have given it out. That's not a problem on here mostly if you have given it out off site. To see that click both of mine to see what happens.
Popping in to do some "house-keeping"! LOL
Jean - you have two discussions for your Division. Would you delete one please? Just go to whichever one you would like to delete. Then click "Options" in the upper right corner. Click "Delete Discussion". It will ask you to confirm it before it does so.
- On Discussion Forums:
The Discussion Forum area will only show twenty titles at a time. It is also set to show the "latest activity". So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" up to the top. Whatever is at the bottom will disappear. So, if you want to see more click, "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.
To "bump" up a discussion to the first spot of the DF area when you don't really want to add a reply...in other words someone is looking for it...just type whatever you want in the reply box and click "add reply". I just type one letter and add the reply. Then get rid of it by clicking the "x" in the top right hand corner. The discussion will stay up there at the top without your reply. It's because it has had "activity".
When you view a DF the first post ever made will be the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply”.

On posting personal info:
You haven't done anything "wrong" ...it's just best not too as anyone can read these pages. This is a public forum. Also, your recruits trainers...RDC's - Recruit Division Commanders - read these pages. They can easily link you with your recruit. We recommend changing your profile picture and referring to your recruit as SR - Seaman Recruit. These are not rules but recommendations...the only rule as far as names go is absolutely NO last names of your recruit. The rest of the N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC info to follow can be found here:
Community Guidelines and OPSEC
This is also available in the discussion Forum and up above under the eagle with the waving flag. OPSEC is a way of life for you now! Just looking out for you and your future Sailor.
