@amyd. If their flight leaves in the afternoon they may be allowed to leave until two hours before their flight. It is up to the descretion of the uso.

As far as the airport....they will know if they can leave it or not. I have heard of some leaving with their family...and some will say that's fine if they have a particularly late flight. Me, I couldn't do it...Murphy's law and all! I would be very cautious...missing their flight...would be a HUGE problem.

Nice jeans are fine...you will see from very casual to very fancy. My sailor was in whites so my sons and I wore nice blue jeans with red shirts.

Ok Navymom88, you called me out! He is my baby, my only baby. I am loving the countdown! Will you be there for PIR on Feb3?
And btw, does anyone want to share that cab fair with me from o hare to the hotels? I am sure hoping (really praying) that someone does, we could split the cost and bring it down to 30, more people, less cost.
Comment by winterrosebud (Ship 12 Div 053) on January 16, 2012 at 2:40am
I seriously doubt your recruit would be allowed to leave the airport. It seems like the sailors go in groups and have to stay together. At least that's the case when they left for boot camp. Before PIR your sailor will be given a briefing on what they can and cannot do. I would wait and see like anything else in the navy.

Ladies jeans with thermal or under gear great choice for sightseeing..keeps you warmer cuts wind effect. Gloves scarf hat a must....boots or hiking shoe good choice if snowy...as for PIR there is so many people not everyone will dress same..be comfortable most important
Comment by AngelW (Ship 07 Div 060) on January 16, 2012 at 2:08am
If it is ok to wear jeans, I am great with that! I read somewhere that we should dress up so that we compliment our SR in their Dress Blues... Please someone, let us know.
All of my dress pants are really thin too. I don't want to freeze :-0 Not cool. Where are y'all going sightseeing? I haven't made any plans after hugging my baby (I mean son) hahaha
Comment by AmyD on January 16, 2012 at 1:45am

I don't believe we have to dress up, I think it's a personal choice.  Being from Florida I have a limited warm wardrobe and jeans would be the warmest thing for me to wear. My other pants are sooo thin, I'll freeze to death!  My son wants to go sightseeing Friday immediately after PIR so jeans make the most sense for me.

Comment by AmyD on January 16, 2012 at 1:41am

When I spoke with my son he said that since his flight will likely not be until the evening we can leave the airport and go sightseeing in Chicage as long as we are back in plenty of time for him to catch his flight. Is that correct?
