Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by diannep on December 1, 2011 at 8:12pm: Sarge, I believe, is the one who said if you are going to rent a car, it is much cheaper in GL. I guess that he would be the one to get you from the airport and back to the airport then!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on December 1, 2011 at 6:52pm: I have heard some say that they have taken the train from the airport to a car rental place and gotten a much cheaper rate. They are always more expensive at the airports so it may be worth checking into.

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on December 1, 2011 at 11:15am: Ladies, when renting a car, don't forget about Priceline. I have used them a lot and have never paid more than $12 a day. You just put in what you want to pay and wait for them to approve or deny your request. It has saved me a lot over the last couple of years.

Batmansmom and everyone else, I would suggest if possible, to try to plan to arrive by Wed, instead of Thursday. I know that sometimes with work/school schedules that it may not be possible, but for those who can do it, it's a good idea. It would give you at least one extra day for weather delays, whether you are driving out to GL or flying in.
