No we did not think it would be an issue, the dentist told us she could wear a mouth guard if it bothered her that was all.

She had some minor pain from the TMJ (jaw pain)  in the past but nothing debilitating, is there anything we can do?

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on November 10, 2011 at 1:46pm

AdirondackD - yes...everything dianne said...please do. There are some great moms who have stayed on the Ship 5 group who's recruits have been discharged...one in particular TFAN2. It's wonderful that they do. I've spent some time on there and it is VERY important that she have the proper discharge/reenlistment codes. How you exit the Navy is just as important as how you enter.

Please let us know how you and she are doing?

I am sorry to hear this...I hope it all works out for you...

Love your posts, ArNavyMom and Michelle.  Very inspiring and had me going "YES YES!"  So true!  Michelle:  I just had a talk with my sailor son earlier this week about the "power" within him.  He sometimes doubts the Lord's power in his life, and when telling me how well he was doing at work, I talked to him about this.  I pray each morning that my boys realize that it is not THEIR power, but the Lord's power THROUGH them that will get them through life.  Of course, I need to stand in front of the mirror as I say this and I remind myself of that in my moments of struggle!

Adirondack:  I am so sorry...if she calls you again, ask her to request sign a waiver so you all can talk to the "powers that be" up there about this.  Otherwise, you can't be involved...only she can.  She can fight this through Legal.  The problem is:  During the fight, she will remain at bootcamp and it can take a while.  Maybe she can request another opinion on the TMJ by another dr?  Please join the group "Ship 5 (formerly 17)" on N4Moms.  Just go to the GROUPS tab above and put that in the search bar.  There are ladies on there to help you...and lots of info.

Again, I am so so sorry and hope that if this is something that is fixable, she can obtain a waiver from the Navy so she can re-enlist...if she can't stay in now, which is my hope for her.

My daughter called and said she is being discharged because of TMJ in her jaw.  Is there anything she can do?  She is heart broken all her dreams fading out of reach.

Heard this great quote today and thought it would be good to share, I sent it off to my son just in case he needs some encouragment;

Your biggest challenge isn't someone else, Its the ache in your lungs, the burning in your legs and the voice inside you that yells"I Can't" but you do not listen, you just push harder...then you hear that voice fade away and start to whisper "I Can" that's the moment you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.  So proud of our Boys!!!!
