A very close friend of mine made "prayer cards" for me and the ladies in our church as well as a handful of others. (family, friends and strangers!)  I pray this prayer for my son and for every recruit that will be graduating on 12/29/11.

Dear Lord,

Give ________ the wisdom to lead, and the humility to follow. Grant him the dedication to work untiringly for his country, its people and our freedom. Teach him to be the best he can be, for himself and for others around him. Fill him with the strength, the courage, and the willingness to do the job he's called to do. Help him to believe in truth, speak out for justice, defend the flag and uphold the American ideals that make our country the wonderful land that it is. In Jesus name Amen.

Good morning Ladies: into my 2nd week seems like it should be work 4 or 5 hope the time is going faster for my son, Thanksgiving will be hard we have a big family and I know that he will miss it alot,At least once Christmas gets here it is only a matter of days to see him. We are driving and if he decides to not come home after PIR I think we will take his gifts with us then bring them home after he opens them. We are praying with you on no snow to.

Good morning to everyone! Thank you Fireteamleader wife for the great links and invaluable info....

I agree,my friends and family try to be supportive, but if I hear "he'll be just fine" or "don't feel so bad, when my kid left to college/moved out I Went thru the same thing" one more time....lol . It pales in comparison.....especially when it's the first thanking, christmas, without them. The empty chair is going to break my heart, the family holding hands while saying grace and my son then grabbing the football after helping clean up when dinner is done.....(((tears))) No, I doubt others truly understand, when they can call, visit, send care packages, to their sons/daughters. The airfare is expensive, so we will drive 14 hours in the winter weather ((pray theres no snow )) to share with other families....the sight of our amazing kid/s.

Good Morning all!

Here ya go----

When an Amercian says that he loves his country, he means not only the New England hills, the prairies glistening in the sun, the wide and rising plains, the great mountains, and the sea. He means that he loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which a man can draw the breath of self-respect.

jnrlopez - Also, I have posted a comment on your page. Love your photos too!

jnrlopez - Hello...I'm not Betsy but I checked on your sons rating. You have on your page that he has enlisted AECF. There are only two ratings in this field.

Here is a link to usmilitary.about.com:

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/aecf.htm

From what I have read all AECF go to Great Lakes for their initial core A school. During that time (approx 19 weeks) it is determined if they go on to ET - Electronics Techinician (electronics communications and radar) or FC - Fire Controlman (Fire as in weapons...operate, maintain and repair electronic, computer and control mechanisms used in weapons systems) within the field.

Once that is determined they then continue on at Great Lakes in that field for approx 11-13 weeks depending on which rating.

They THEN should have a "C" school. These vary.

Here is a link to a group on here for:

AECF - FCs and ETs

@ herewegoga - that's wonderful you recvd his form letter.  I know when we rcvd my son's I didn't know if I wanted to smile or cry. (tears of joy of course). I carry his letter in my purse.  Odd as it sounds - looking at his handwriting is comforting!  Again, how wonderful for you and yours!

RuthL, I know how hard it if for you as a mom, to be away from her.  But also try to remember that she is also making great friends at BC who are there for her now (and will be probably for a long time).  Their divisions are their family during this time and they get very close.   So, even if you can't talk to her, please remember that she has many SR's around her who are all feeling the same things, thinking the same way and going through the same emotions as her.  Just like you have the women on here, she has people too.  :)
