proudmom, I would have thought that was the drill team that is in the performing division but since your recruit is in DIV 119 I am not sure. I know that when my daughter was there a girl was pulled from another division to sing with the choir but still trained with her original division. Maybe they have pulled him to work with the drill team. Did he have experience in that? IF not, then maybe it is something to do with getting sharpshooter. I hope you sent a letter asking him :-) Let us know when you find out.
@Kahlis Mom - send pictures, drawings, questionaires, jokes, newspaper articles, cards. I wrote a letter to my niece from one of her dogs. I used my left hand to write and misspelled words. I find funny pictures on the Internet and copy them onto a piece of paper and send her those. I bought a bunch of cards with various sentiments, some serious (thinking of you, i believe in you, etc) some funny, one I sent the other day was just apicture of a bunch of yellow lab puppies all piled on top of each other (it was the kind of day where you just needed to look at the cutest puppies ever). I know it may seem that letters are "boring" but they are in no way boring to your recruits. My daughter's best friend wrote to her every day with nothing more than what she had done that day. She drew her pictures, rainbows, attempts at her two new dogs. Some of the stuff is pretty funny but it is random and seems mundane to a regular person, but to your recruit it is the touch of home that they crave. So it doesn't have to be a letter. My sister-in-law colored a picture of my niece's favorite Disney princess and sent that.
Teachermom is correct, no gifts, NO Goodies, no musical cards but you can send regular cards, a few 4x6 prints or print photos on copy paper and you can write your letters on the other side. If they wear contacts you can send those, but they will only be allowed to wear them for PIR and maybe if they are lucky for pictures. you can send a small amount of paper, return address labels, stamps but not much else. If you have a girl and she is in the performing division you may be able to send a small hair dryer but it is best to let her ask you to send it first. Females may also ask you to send basic make-up like foundations and eyeliner but not all the RDC's will let them actually use it even if they have it sent.
I dont' think they are really supposed to get anything besides letters. I've read that if it isn't a letter in a standard envelope they have to open it in front of the RDC. They don't like the attention. I did send mine a small bubble envelope with a small legal pad, pen, small envelopes, and stamps.
My sr has a cold as well. Not surprised being bunked with 80+ others! hope theyget well soon!
