beccasusan> Would be surprised of they sent him home for a sprained ankle.  I think the most that would happen is that he would be "asmoed" (setback) until it is healed, but he may not even need that.  Possibly some SIQ/LLD time will be all he needs.  Keep the faith!

Just an FYI...Someone posted about Ship 5 earlier...that is not the Ship for injured Sailors. Ship 04 houses the Injured and recovering Recruits. :-)

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on March 8, 2012 at 5:27am

beccasusan - When a recruit is injured...what they do depends on the extent of the injury...even then it is different for every recruit. Like LaLa said...the recruit in her story opted to go home...but never went back. She is right...IF he really wants this...he is better off staying and gutting it out! (The chances of re-entry are like 1 %.) Yes...it means longer...but better set back than sent home.

If he is not going home...then he needs to heal. Here are a couple of scenarios.

It may be "real swollen" but sprains are nasty! He could just get SIQ (Sick in Quarters) and LLD Limited Light Duty...which means staying in his current Division.

If it is worse he will most likely go to RCU. When they are injured and given the option to recover at RTC and then reenter training...they will leave their Division and enter RCU - Recruit Convalescent Unit. They will heal there (We have a group for RCU...the Ship is 04/2341) and then be placed back into a Division that is closest to where they left off in training (A new TG and PIR date). They will finish BC in the new Division and have a PIR.

Some are given the option of finishing BC in the RCU. If they do this they will not have a PIR. Once they complete BC and Battlestations they will go on to their "A" school.

I know of two Sailors who were supposed to PIR in January and both had stress fractures...just finished BC a week ago. One in RCU/no PIR and one in a new Division/with PIR. So they were in BC 7-8 weeks longer...but they are now US SAILORS!

I will be praying for your recruit dear! Emoticon

I know I sent this message to my group but I think I made an error in spelling..sorry about that.....tired I guess!

...What I posted was; IRONICALLY ENOUGH!

They teach our SR's to help one another and to become one UNIT and look what us MOMS are doing...SAME!

Comment by LA-BriansMom (Ship 3 Div 116) on March 8, 2012 at 1:17am

I have been reading Becca..that sometimes they put the recruits in a separate ship where the SR's can recover from injuries etal and then go back into a different unit/ship and complete the Boot Camp and Graduate with a different SHIP/UNIT. I know you may not want to hear that but sometimes it best instead of actually sending the recruit home. I heard sometimes they leave it up to the recruit too,..I could stand corrected though...this is just reading I have found...I guess it would depend on how bad the sprain it too...I wil keep you and your SR in my prayers...

Thank you so much for the support and the prayers. These past days I don't know what I would do without this group! just wrote him a long letter - trying to be supportive and encouraging. I don;t want him to make any decisions he would regret. Hopefully tomorrow will bring some letters, which i hope are 'somewhat' positive.

I finally got my letters today! Definitely made my day so much better and it is so good to hear from my SR! He said the training is pretty tough but he's hanging in there! I have not recieved a phone call yet, but in his letter he said it should be this week! Also he said that he was put in a rifle division which is mostly guys who are training to be navy seals and special ops? anyone know what this means and why? he doesn't seem to happy about it... so glad to see that a lot of you guys have recieved your letters and are getting phone calls! and for everyone that hasn't yet, it will be soon hang in there!

Home from jury duty. Back again tomorrow! Hopefully, will be done. On the other hand - 3 letters today. Yeah!! Two handwritten and one questionairres. She sounds good. Passed her PFA and swim quals but is having some ankle problems. They gave her dr, scholl's for her boots. Not sure if that will help. She said the food is good or that she is to tired to notice. She said I would be proud that she is eating all of her food, lol, She doesn't eat much but does make good food choices.
She did say to be ready for a phone call next Thursday. Not sure if she means this week or next since her letters are not dated and I can't make out the postal stamp. She said most people are cool but there are some idiots that argue over dumb things. But that's life. So glad to hear from her.
