So sorry, Penny....I know both of you were disappointed. But he'll get over it and hopefully there will be a LONG call in your future soon!
LA-BriansMom: So glad you had such a great call.
Yep, the "Ricky Crud." Sounds like he has it. My theory? Since they all seem to get sick? Their poor bodies are flooded with vaccinations when they arrive....way too many at one time, in my humble opinion. For systems like my son's (natural...didn't go to drs or even take aspirin). it can throw them for a loop. Lowers their resistance for a while...which allows them to catch anything and everything. Pink eye is another "thing" that goes around and they are not allowed to participate in BattleStations (final test) if they have it...they are treated and then go through.
Please try not to worry. The RDCs are very aware of the sicknesses there and will give SIQ (sick in quarters) and LLD (limited light duty) to those who are struggling. They all sure look good by PIR time...so they get through it!
Bob'sMom: Too funny about the handwriting....that is why my son didn't have watch alot...not good handwriting! :-)
You probably don't need the EZ Pass unless you plan to do alot of driving to/from Chicago. We only went from the airport to GL and back to the airport. Just had the change available (this was over 2 yrs ago, so not sure if the tollbooths are unmanned now, which means taking a picture of your license plate and sending the bill?--that's what they do down here where I live for those who don't have Sunpass). See what fee the rental cars charge for this...unless they give it to you "free", (not likely), don't think I would get it. There weren't many tolls.
Oh my gosh...! I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY..I am so excited, CLOUD NINE! I was at work and of course I have my cell phone next to my side. I heard it ring, as it does often and I turned and saw "847" area..I jumped to grab it...IT WAS MY SON! We talked about 20 minutes, yes 20 minutes..we talked about all types of things, what he is going, how things are going..and yes he sounded uplifted this second phone call...only thing was he has a very bad cold and that scared me...he said he has been having it since the shots...he doesn't wan't to go to doc because he doesn't want to miss time with his Unit..so he is plowing through the cold and drinking orange juice day and night...we talked about his accomplishments which have all been good! I won't go into details, but it was a good call! He told me, "Mom next time I will be calling will be when I am calling to tell you I am a "SAILOR"! (3rd call which comes in 4 weeks) he said he still has so much to go, but he sounded up for it...I can't wait...phone calls are so much better then letters!!!!
So excited for all of you that got calls. My phone is sitting next to me but no ring. :( If ya'll are comfortable, tell us how your SR is doing! Would love to live vicariously through you!
Got my first "real call" tonight! Wasn't long enough about 5 minutes, but he sounded wonderful. I'm jealous that some got longer!!! He says a letter is in the mail.
Oh yeah I have one on my phone too...didn't think about that...LOL
