Ilovemyabh: This is good practice for you when he is deployed because there are long periods of no contact then!
The form letter can take anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks to arrive (and in one recent group, the letters took longer than 2 weeks). Hoping that you get yours soon. Are you mailing the letters yet or just writing them to mail later? If you are using a recruiter's address, doublecheck that address with the form letter one. The form letter address is the correct one (one written in by your SR). If you find the recruiter's address was incorrect, the letters will get to your SR but may take a little longer.
Kahli'sMom: It is so hard in the beginning of bootcamp with no contact. I found it comforting to know that my son was being watched over, mentored, fed, provided housing, and was safe in his rack at night...not around town! You will do a "happy dance" when you get that first letter or phone call!
proudmom: There are addresses for the ships (by ship number...several divisions are in each ship) on the RTC site. Unfortunately, it seems to be "down" right now so I couldn't get it for you. The website is:
Look under family info there later...when the site is available again.
In the meantime, know that it is possible that the recruiter's address is not correct for your SR. They get it from the computer, and sometimes, it is not correct, or the SR is moved. So we suggest that you write your letters and wait for the form letter (which will have the correct mailing address written in by your SR) and then slap on that address and mail all of the letters at once.
Just to let you all know...the mail is not delivered to them until they have been there about 2 weeks. They have to train the Recruit Mail Petty Officer before the mail can be handled. So they usually get their first delivery on the 2nd Sunday they are up there. After that, they get mail all days but Sunday. They are usually allowed to write for the first time on the day they first receive their mail.
So my fiance left on February 15th, has anyone gotten their formal letter yet with the PIR date for other guys/girls that arrived that day? Me and his mom got his box on Monday(which was odd cause it was a holiday) now just waiting for this formal letter! :/ I've written him a letter everyday that he's been gone.... I'm working on letter number 9 right about now.. This waiting game is gonna kill me... lol.
I'm praying today is the day that I get my letter from my girl! I just want to know she is ok and I am so excited to start sending her letters. I miss her so much and am so proud to be her mom.
Just got the form letter! It's official PIR is April 13. Hope you get yours soon! She sounds good. First few days were rough but having a few laughs now. Glad to hear her spirit is positive. Wishing all of them the best!
@ audra - I sent her with a calling card. I guess it is recommended. Waiting for her first call!!
Another N4Moms veteran here to help! Thanks for starting the group, mamabeans!
Woo-Hoo! Always love seeing that pic LaLa...I NEVER get tired of it! So bea-u-ti-ful!
