Rtb:  You sailor should tell you at PIR what time he/she is bussing to the airport.  They usually are bussed in the wee hours to wait for flights.  You meet them there, usually in the USO area...except if at Midway, sailor needs to meet you in front of security since USO is past.  This is not a problem.  Your sailor will help you get a gate pass from their airlines so that you can wait at the gate until their flight departs.

The Navy started issuing backpacks to the SRs over the summer, so that is their carryon.  They can put personal items in that (handed off at the airport)...and probably are allowed one other personal item (up to the airlines, but the usual number)...like a laptop in a case.  Yes, they will check their seabags and garment (uniform) bags.

TeacherMom:  I never asked my son how his group got from the airport to the base, but I'm sure the sailors know what to do...they have their orders and they are very clear!

Comment by Teach on April 8, 2012 at 9:46pm

FTLW: When they get to A school, does somebody meet them at the Airport or do they have to find their way to the base on their own?  My SR has never had to do that and I'm not sure he would know how.  LOL  Mom always made all travel arrangements for the family.

Which hotel are you staying at Asterzmom?  We are also leaving on Wed. Staying at Ramada.
