TeacherMom: I would suggest that you text that info to Sarge. He would be interested in knowing that. I have never met him and won't ever meet him, obviously. But here's his number. I know he would appreciate it:

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR SAILORS AND OUR ENTIRE NAVY FAMILY!! WE MADE IT THROUGH BOOTCAMP!! NOW ON TO "A" SCHOOL! THIS GROUP WILL NOW BECOME AN ALUMNI GROUP. I REALLY SUGGEST YOU FIND THE SPECIFIC SUPPORT GROUP FOR YOUR "A" SCHOOL TOO! XOXO TO EVERYONE!!!
HOOYAH!
We chose to drive to PIR instead of taking the shuttle because there were a lot of smokers taking the shuttle and my sister is very allergic, even if the smell is just on the clothes. We got to the graduation at approximately 7:15. We didn't have any trouble. The traffic was moving rather well. We were one of the lucky random cars that got checked by security. We had to step outside the car while they checked everything. They were very polite and courteous and it only took a few minutes, then we went to park. We were ecstatic that there was a parking garage right behind the Visitor's Center. There were plenty of recruits that were stationed at regular intervals and showed us exactly where to park. It was a very short walk rom the garage into the visitor's center and straight into the ceremonial hall. We had to show identification and give the name of our SR and division number before exiting the Visitor Center. They checked to see if we were on the list. Everything was very well organized and ran smoothly. The ceremony is one that I will never forget. I was hoping to get all day Saturday with my Sailor, but her plane left on Saturday morning. We drove to the airport and got to spend a few hours with her there. I am so glad that we went to the airport. We actually got to meet the families of the Sailors that would be going to A School with her. I was able to tell several of the moms about this website. We are all going to stay in touch while our Sailors are at A School. It is nice to put faces with names. Anyway, I will still be a regular on N4Moms. I hope I can help other moms with new recruits as much as you guys have helped me.
diannep - we were at O'Hare.
And...if you could pass on a message to Sarge. He told us his secret tip about getting in quicker, but that is no longer necessary because they allowed people in from both ends of the building. The people who drove on base and parked actually got in faster that we did by following his tip. Plus, after PIR, we had a much longer walk after our SR went to get the pics/shirts from his rack than we would have if we had parked on base. Interesting how things change!
Thanks for all of this info, TeacherMom: I'm going to refer the 04/20 group to your post! Were you at Midway or Ohare?
CheleMariethaks you for posting photos-I have 12 days to go! good luck to your sailor in his next phase
Thank you so much to diannep, FTLW, and others who helped us through the last eternally long 8 weeks. You were invaluable to us.
A few things to add, or perhaps I just missed them.
The only information that I don't think I ever read, was details on returning them on Friday night. Maybe I just missed it. We thought we were going to have to slow down on Buckley and let him jump out because our gate pass was no longer any good. As it turned out, we were able to show driver ID and Sailor ID and they allowed us back on base as far as the chapel parking lot. That made saying goodbye so much less stressful.
The bus drops the sailors at the beginning of Terminal 2. They unload and then find their flights from there. So, if you are going to the airport, that is where you want to be if you get there before the bus arrives.
Also, be sure everybody brings ID to airport for going through security with your Sailor. Our 16 year old didn't bring his wallet and was lucky they considered him a minor and let him through, but the ticket agent said it would all depend on the TSA agent working security.
We had originally planned to hang out at the USO and not go through security. However, the USO people said they don't allow family in on graduation weekends because they are flooded with Sailors and there just isn't room. So, we changed our plans. Glad we did as we got to spend longer with him.
Also, if going to the airport, when you get to the gate, be sure to go to the counter and let them know you are here. We did that and, unbeknownst to us, they put him on a wait list for upgrade to first class. Later, they called his name to come back to the counter and presented him with his new upgraded seat assignment. He was ecstatic! It made the 3 hour flight to San Antonio much more comfortable.
Thanks again for all your help. The tips for PIR and what to pack were especially valuable. We needed the Tide Pen for his Dixie Cup after he got pizza sauce on it because it was in his lap. LOL
You are very welcome CheleMarie! We love doing this! Now....each of YOU is a N4Moms veteran so feel free to join us on the other PIR sites (PIR is pretty much every Friday) and add your expertise to those groups!
Enjoy!
I just wanted to take a moment to thank FTLW and dianep and all the other moms that offered up their time, encouragement and support to us moms. Many of us may not have been actively posting, but actively reading and learning from you all. It made the proudest day so much better. I have amazing photos of the performing div in action from a great seat. I hope to get them all posted today for those moms in other PIRs anxiously awaiting a glimpse of their SR. I soooo know how that feels. Thank you and congrats to all.
