Penny- I'm so sorry for your SR's loss:( I will keep him in my prayers.
CTsailor- I'm stopping mailing mine Monday of PIR week. I live in TN so mail only takes three days to get there and I'm bringing the rest to give him at graduation for the plane ride and such.

Thank you for info on letters diannep, wouldn't't have thought of that... Will get all mine out this week and what I don't mail will bring so he can have on plane... Will also post for his family and friends on Facebook to let them know... Thanks again!!

CTsailor:  We advise you all to send the last letters a week before PIR.  However, for those who still want to write after that, just copy the letters and take the copies to PIR in case they didn't arrive.  They should be forwarded to their A Schools, but we all know how that goes sometimes.

Comment by diannep on April 1, 2012 at 10:38pm

Oh, and I agree.  There isn't much chance he will get call/FB time before BattleStations so I think you are ok with that.

Comment by diannep on April 1, 2012 at 10:37pm

Penny, so very sorry about your SR's friend.  I agree with proudmom.  I would see if you can speak to a Chaplain...you can go through the Red Cross...and see if maybe that Chaplain can speak to your sailor right after Battlestations. It just would be better for this info to come through you than on FB, as you said.  It might be that the Chaplain can get permission for your sailor to call home earlier than the others so that you can tell your sailor...sad to have to put a damper on the "I'm a Sailor" excitement, but seems the only way to avoid the FB problem that could happen.
