I got to talk to my son tonight for over an hour, how sweet it was...I need to get up at 4:00 but I can't fall asleep.....
The black berry pie is baked, the two loaves of banana bread are done and all that's left is packing luggage...we take off around noon tomorrow to head up to Great Lakes!
mamabeans> Yes, you can bring him normal underwear for A School. That's fine.
I would bring cells, laptops, ipods, to GL. I know many say they can't have them and to mail them later, but I can tell you...they can take those with them and will just have to lock up what they can't have at A School yet. You can hand these off at the airport. Remember, they have their Navy-issued backpacks that they can put some things in, plus they can have a 2nd carryon if necessary. Yes, they have their seabags and garment (uniform) bags--both checked luggage...but I would take these things. The worst that can happen is that you will return home with them to mail later if they really insist on not taking them. I would strongly encourage them to at least take their cellphones though. Again, handed off at the airport...nothing is allowed at RTC.
bdmama: And yes, many many families in the past have arrived at the airports in the wee hours of the morning to spend whatever time they can with their sailors! Take a short nap after you drop them back off at RTC on PIR day! It is well worth it to make these airport visits...you can obtain a gate pass there and spend time right up until their planes take off.
WendyJ... my son told me the same thing... told me just to bring cell so he can use it but I will have to take it with me again. And asked me to bring his normal glasses but those seem to be "lost". :( They were only 2 weeks old and $200. Normally that would really make me mad but right now he can do no wrong in my eyes. good thing he is getting a paycheck now and can buy his own! LOL
Just finished packing and leave in 12 hours!!! I am SOOOO EXCITED! It has been such a long road but thanks to my N4M family I got through all of it! Thank you to each and every one of you for each word of ecouragement. Looking forward to meeting everyone too!
Question: Should I bring him normal underwear? Do you think he will be able to take it with him to A school? I know he is hating the tightie whiteys
I missed a call from my Sailor today. He left a message and said NOT to bring his laptop, cell phone or civilian clothes. Said everything has to sent after he gets to Pensacola. Has anyone else been told this by their Sailor?
Congratulations to everyone who received the, "I'm a Sailor phone call"!
bdmama- Yes, heard it straight from my sailor's mouth when he called last night! He is going to San Antonio leaving from Midway at 6:00/6:30am. They are leave RTC at 12:30am for the airport...and YES, ABSOLUTELY will be there at the airport!!! Have to squeeze in every second!
