We had a great time at graduation and spending time with our sailor.  Still our goofy guy but we can see how this experience has changed him.  How mature he is. We are very proud of him and all the others sailors out there of the 02/18/11 graduating divisions.
  • navymom 74 Ship 4 Div 805

Got in this morning from OHare at 4am.  Soooo tired, but worth the trip.  I loved seeing my Sailor and catching up.  He is pretty much the same, just better and soo focused.  Leaving him yesterday was so hard, but knowing we can talk, txt and fb makes it easier.  Not sure if we are going to see him in A School, but he will have a break in June that we may make a trip.  I hope everyone enjoyed your few days, sorry I couldnt meet up with you at the Meet and Greet.  We had a whole big group with us.  God Bless our Sailors!

What a great weekend! Got home to sunny CA. It had just started snowing at Ohare when we left. Whew! Glad we missed a possible storm. Had the best time with our son. We just relaxed at the hotel, did some shopping and had some great meals out. I brought his phone and computer with me so he loved being able to get in touch with friends. Unfortunately, I had to bring them both home with me. He ships out on Wed. to Pensacola so when I get an address I'll be able to send them to him. We did do some shopping at the NEX on Saturday morning. That was fun! I forgot to order a copy of PIR though. Does anyone know if we can still order one and where we might get it? I'm so upset with myself. Too much on my mind!! :-)

  • Karen H.

Wow what an incredible weekend.  I can not believe the change and how much my son has grown up.  It was so good to see him and spend family time. Brought him some comfort foods,  We took him to dinner, breakfast and went bowling.  He is heading to Florida for A school.  We ended up leaving Saturday evening to head home before snowstorm hit Minnesota.   Will have to ask if or how to get a copy of PIR.  I think the sailors might be able to order a copy.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Well my perfect weekend has not had a good ending. We boarded our flight and it left on time but 5 minutes before the scheduled landing, they turned us back around and we are stuck here at Ohare for the night. Apparently, Pittsburgh is having a blizzard. Oh well, what can you do but roll with it.
  • Scrappy1(Carol)

I'm so sorry MountainMama.  I hope you can get out early today.  We fly to Orlando this afternoon so I hope all goes well.  My grandson is looking for me (that would be my son's 85 pound puppy)
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Finally made it to Pittsburgh but we've been waiting over an hour for the courtesy van to take us back to the hotel to get my car. Then it's a two hour plus drive home. I'm going to crash!! Good lick on your trip to Florida!
  • alwaysdaddyltlegirl(Ship03Div081

Arrive yesterday from Chicago, the weekend was awesome, the goodbye"s are the hardest part, cryed all the way to the airport..We left just in time before the blizzard was comeing in.She said everything was ok just alittle down because day of graduation they change her job from a ET to a FC no explanations just the needs of the Navy, Shes was down about that. She will be in greatlakes till the end of august along with others that are staying there.. Can anyone tell me if you have a sailor that is in division 081 an is staying in GL for FC I would like to know.. I left my heart in Chicago ladies ;.(

  • kandio(ship 3 Div 081)

WOW what a wonderful weekend, so happy to see my son but so hard to say good-bye again.  But we were so lucky to get that extra day with him, he stays in GL for school so hopefully we can make another trek down there soon.  We left GL at 5:30 last night for 5 hour drive home to northwest WI  took 8 1/2 hours snowy slippery roads YIKES!! but we made it!!! So proud of all those young men and women, they are outstanding!
  • Northwest Annie

My heart is in Chicago too Daddys Girl. It was hard to say goodbye. I'm feeling on the brink of tears at any moment. So proud of all of our Sailors and I wouldn't change a thing but I'm feeling very emotional.
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

I am finally home! Just 15 minutes shy of 24 hours since I started my journey home! But I'd do it all again to see my boy. It was definitely worth it. He leaves in a few hours to San Antonio.
  • Holly_motherpie( Ship 09 Div.78)

He is going for Advanced electronics in Radar and Missile systems.......I'm a little sad that won't come home until Oct....I'm happy he likes it : )
  • randy'smom

Back home after an amazing weekend!! Graduation and spending time with my son was just awesome!!!! Saying goodbye was very difficult, but knowing how happy my son is made it easier. Now on to the next phase of our lives. Looking forward to visiting him in Pensacola where it is warmer. Take care all you Navy Moms, and thanks for all the support and advise. You made everything so much easier. I miss going on this site and sharing all your excitement about graduation and seeing our Sailors. Hugs to all!!

    alwaysdaddyltlegirl(Ship03Div081

my son is in A school at GL but for HT he will be til least june...stay in touch

  • bev618

I think that the PIR group from 2/11 had a great idea of changing the name to Alumni - who has the permissions to do this -- it is nice to see what everyone is doing and sharing our stories - after all our Sailors are still on a journey!!

My son (Div 805) has moved over to the other side at GL and will be there I think until the end of March at which time he will move to Panama City, Florida for his next journey - he sounded good when I talked with him tonight and glad to be out of the RTC unit --

But I have to say I am glad that I am out of Chicago and the weather -- much nicer here in Colorado!!

  • exxie

bev:  so glad to hear they moved across the way!  I knew they were scheduled to move, but have not gotten any confirmation from The Prince.  We left his phone and computer at the lock&go, so I guess he has to wait until they get some liberty before he can go pick up his stuff.  :/

SOOOO much fun meeting everyone and getting to laugh and sing with both my kids together in the same room last weekend!  I'm still riding a little higher in my seat.  :D   My daughter bought tickets last night to come home in May and we'll take a ride up to Panama City to play again.  Can't wait!  I guess we've started a new tradition in our family:  planning and anticipating the next vacation, over and over and over!  LOL!!

  • zacksmom

The journey to PIR was amazing! It was fun to meet some N4M's!! My son looked wonderful and happy! Saying goodbye was so hard! Harder than bootcamp. I guess I knew I would see him after bootcamp. Now, who knows. He is in A-school in Great Lakes (FC) until at least November. It really was an amazing journey. Our sailors journies have just started. My prayers are with them all and all of us as we will miss them. I know my sailor walked away with great pride in himself. That was worth it all!
  • bev618

Exxie - my son kept his calling card just so that he knew that it would be a few days before he would be able to get his phone, etc.  They are doing indoc training for the next 5 days (excluding the weekend), so my guess it will be this weekend before you hear from 'the prince'.

We can't wait either to make plans to go to Panama City - and warmer weather!!

    It was a great weekend!!

  • alwaysdaddyltlegirl(Ship03Div081

To zacksmom: My daughter is there also in GL for FC, please keep in touch...

  • gonavy2010

What a wonderful weekend it was last weekend.  I thought the ceremony was awesome...you could just feel the pride as they all started marching in...what an experience.  It was awesome to meet a few of you moms at the meet and greet.  I wish you and all our sailors the best of luck moving forward on their next journey as a US SAILOR!!
  • zacksmom

To alwaysdaddyltlegirl is your daughter on hold? Zack said they have some classes this week and then he doesn't know. Do you have any info? Was she a grad-n-go? Mine was. We will stay in touch!!
  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

My daughter is at GL for GM, I havent heard from her since Monday after PIR.  Does anyone know what they are doing this week besides the move in on Tuesday?
  • alwaysdaddyltlegirl(Ship03Div081

Zacksmom: she said that she was there till august and then yesterday she called my oldest an requested that we shipped out her phone an other important stuff.I did as she told us, but now I'm freaking out post office made an attempt to deliver an she was not available to sign. Her phone is sitting in the post office in great lakes somewhere. So ya I really don't know what's going on I have not talk to her since Sunday.. :(. I know she was nit a gng from the start
  • zacksmom

alwaysdaddyltlegirl: Zack took his laptop and cell phone on base to school with him. He put all his other stuff (clothes) in the lock-and-go. He will get them later I suppose. He mentioned being in school until October or so. Depends when they actually get to start. I hope she gets her phone! That will make communication easier. My son called Wednesday night but I really haven't heard from him since. Says they can't have their cell phone on them most the day. I'll let you know if I hear anything new. Hope you do the same. :)
  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

Ok...somebody tell their kid to tell MY kid to call me! LOL. I know they moved to A school side on Wednesday. First is Indoc, then ATT modules, then he'll start his ET classes, finishing end of Oct., hopefully with 10 days leave before C school. It was easier when I knew I'd ONLY get one letter a week, on Thursday. Now that we had grad weekend, and lots of great conversation, it's like my expectations are back up. Anybody that hears from their ET kid/husband/wife etc. please fill us in on what's happening! (Darnell????)
  • YMM (Ship 12 Div 98)

Does anyone know of a good Chinese restaurant in the Waukegan/Gurnee area?

    Thank you!

  • Sailormom21811

Whiteclay, I got a message on FB from mine that they got moved in.  We actually forgot to take his phone...I KNOW, can you believe we did that!  And, he forgave us!  We are waiting on his temporary address so we can mail it to him.  You really know more than I do about everything else.  Mine is also ET, was FC, but changed in Basic.  He did say they may be on hold for a week or so.

Thanks for the message earlier.  Our flight was delayed leaving Augusta on Thurs and we didn't make it to M&G.  And, when leaving, my husband fell on the black ice in the motel parking lot and broke 3 ribs...so, we were delayed leaving GL and coming home.  Life...

I am glad to hear Darnells daughter is with them.  Between the three of us and the three of them we just might figure this thing out!  Let me know if you hear more and I will do the same.

  • Northwest Annie

So sorry to hear about your husbands fall Blessed. My husband just about went down too on Monday morning about 8 am. We were staying at the Residence Inn. They had salted the sidewalks and the parking lot just looked wet. So off he went. I've never seen such fancy footwork. My husband could have fallen so easily too. Hope your hubby is feeling better. I've heard broken ribs hurt like h#ll.

I heard from my son today. He's in Pensacola. Said he actually misses BC where at least you know what to do! That made me smile because I'm sure about 2 days into BC he wanted to be anywhere else but there. I told him he'd settle into a routine and it would feel "right" again. I got his address so I can mail the phone and computer tomorrow. He said he has to wait about 2 months for his school to start so he'll probably be in Pensacola for a year. His rating is CT-N. Tough school I understand. But I refuse to worry! :-/

  • Scrappy1(Carol)

My son is in GL for corpsman, he said this week they cleaned (imagine that) and yesterday was a finance class.  They picked up their books and real school starts Monday.  I don't have the reason but he told my husband if we mail something to use UPS not USPS.  They are done with structured day around 400pm.  I think he misses the BC structure as well.
  • zacksmom

I miss the anticipation of getting the letters. Getting the mail isn't the same now. I'm glad to be able to call or text but those letters hold a special place in my heart. I think all or our sailors are in a bit of shock! During bootcamp they were told what to do every step of the way. I'm sure this extra freedom is kind of weird for them. Being on hold for school I suppose can get kind of boring. I think, soon, they will all settle in and actually get to be students. They will enjoy their new routine. I can imagine they will enjoy being out of phase 1 and finally get to have liberty with their civillian clothes on. They won't know how to act!!

My son is FC in GL. He too had finance class yesterday or the day before. Good class for them to have!! I know he is ready to settle into school but is on hold for I don't know how long. He is a man of few words when it comes to details.

    Have a great day!! :)

  • MustangMom (Ship03, Div 080)

My son is also in GL awaiting A school for ET. I have talked o him every day since Graduation. Says he misses BC!  Imagine that?  He is really stressed out for some reason right now.  Maybe just the change? Says he is afraid of missing Muster. He volunteered to take out the trash one day while they called Muster and got in trouble even though he was doing what they told him to do.  I wish he would just relax a little before Classes begin. He says they should get over night liberty in a couple of weeks.

  • Holly_motherpie( Ship 09 Div.78)

I am sooo happy i get to talk to my son everyday now....He's in GL for A school...He won't be done until October....He moves to his new room Monday and starts school in 2 weeks i think He gets to clean and stand watch until then...I miss him....as I'm sure all you miss yours too....Happy Friday Mom's : )
  • usapaula (ship 02 div 913)

Blessed ~ So sorry about your hubbys fall, he broke some ribs right? We were the family that was going to take your Sailor to a movie on the day you were leaving. We also missed the M&G too, the traffic was bad coming back from Chicago :-(

We have one very happy Sailor in Pensacola waiting for his laptop and cell to arrive!! They have golf course on base and they train martial arts including his love Ju Jitsu, AND he says no one has shouted at him yet!! He thinks he has gone to heaven!

  • kandio(ship 3 Div 081)

My son is also in GL waiting for A school for HT has 2 more weeks before it starts, called home twice already wondering if I sent his phone and computer yet...think he missed the technology more then his MOM...o well he seems happy but anxious to start his next journey.
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

    shannon:

You might ask on the Facebook page or call the PAO office on GL directly.

  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

I finally got a phone call and an address from my sailor in San Antonio. He sounds great and he really likes it. I'm heading out to the PO to send him his phone and hopefully we can start having some regular contact!
  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

I'm getting the hang of this web site, finally, better late than never.  I was Jill, now I'm Jill64 (Ship03/Div081) at least for now and I also changed my picture.  Oh,well.
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

Hey, I saw on my son's picture receipt where he ordered the DVD.  Will they mail that to us or were we supposed to pick it up after PIR?
  • PrdNavyMom2Sailors

I am under the impression that it gets mailed to your house.  At least that is what I am expecting along with the year book.
  • MountainMama(ship3 div081)

    Okay, thanks!

  • kandio(ship 3 Div 081)

yes that is what I was told too they both get mailed to home address.
