Patttea. If you see a little X on the right corner of your post, just click on that to delete. If it doesn't let you, it's ok. I would just private message some of the members of your division and ask them for their names. It is nice getting to know the moms of SR's who are with your child. :)
i made another fun badge to go into the clear insert of the lanyards...:)
also i have gotten some emails with wanting the lanyards - but have not gotten the follow up as to how many so please email me so i can make sure to order enough - i have 5 left of the first 100 ordered - but its no problem to order more i just need to know so everyone gets them in time for our PIR!
the badges go inside the clear sleeve at the end of the lanyard - i am not charging if you want me to make one for you when your ordering the lanyards, just send me the info you want on it - i am just using a photoshop program with clip art so its easy for me and its helping me pass my free time :)
HvnlySno, hang in there, Hopefully this week you will get a letter. Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days to get mail. I am in NC and my letters always came on Thursdays except when there was a holiday. I will keep my fingers crossed for you :-)
Thanks FTLW for the information. I deleted the reply that I made on the discussion of my son's ship/div where I mentioned his last name. Sorry, but I just assumed that since he was known by his last name, that would be o.k.
Oregon mom, there have been a lot of problems with messages on this site for some reason. It has been going on for over a month. I think it has something to do with some changes they are making to this site. But I am not sure. That is why I tell everyone who wants to order ribbons to wear to PIR to honor their Sailor that if I have not responded to an email on this site within 24 hours or they are unable to send a friend request or email to me they need to send me a message at my email address: uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com
It is risky to post your email address on this site because it is public and you will get spam emails by posting it so be aware of that before you post your regular email account. Hopefully they will have it fixed very soon.
I added a questionnaire to the discussions above. This is one I wrote and sent to my daughter when she was there. This one has a really good and encouraging paragraph in it that talks about battlestations and teamwork so now is a very good time to send it so it will be fresh on their minds before they do battlestations. You may have to tweak it a little, my Sailor is a girl :-)
Oregon Mom: Sometimes there are problems within the N4Mom site that affect the private messaging. Eventually, it gets straightened out!
Jana: Just remember, no last names are ever to be posted for our military members for OPSEC security reasons. There are alot of warnings for sites like this one because of this. One ship had their FB page deleted for not heeding these warnings (like not posting the whereabouts of a ship, departure dates, return dates). This is a matter of not only the security of the ship's crew, but of our country as well. So we all need to start practicing this now...
Thanks gals. I think I finally found a way to get the message to her. I'll know if I hear back.lol.
If I don't get a phone call pretty soon Ima go out of my mind, Short trip, lol. He left on 6/27/11. I've gotten one very, very short (6 sentences)letter. I have so...many questions. I would just feel so much better if I could hear his voice. I've never gone even close to this long without talking to him. Even his one year off to college before Navy, i talked to him at least once a week. I'm hoping this doesn't mean his Div is in trouble ALL the time.
Omg finally got the first call it wasn't the I'm held back call that I feared! I'm so happy she's doing ok, we will know this weekend if she's not on track we will get another call.... But she's nit worried ;) she use to be a swimmer in jrhigh & high school!
Omg I forgot to ask SO many questions.... & found out after she told me she only had 10 mins but i had to cut her off out of fear afterall we used x18' with me dad & brother, she called short time boyfriend (great kid he texted me to let me know :) but my bf told me they got an hour!! R u kidding me I'm gonna write that little brats & remind her to not tell lies if she wants to call others it's fine but do not lie cuz mommy always finds out....
...ship 11/274 is in week 4! is there a discussion forum for 11/274...i actually found a couple but they appeard inactive...i'm feeling lost amongst all the divisions...i'm wondering what my SR is going through...from the posts below this should be Hell Week..then what..and what is the Blue Candle Event?
Many family members light the blue candle at 8pm the night their recruit goes into battle stations. It is a way of showing support. Many people get the battery operated kind so they can leaving them burning all night. Just don't leave the real ones unattended or burning all night. We want everyone to be safe. :-)
They say the mail is forwarded but some Sailors says they have received it and other say they have not. I would stop sending mail about a week before PIR.
Brittysmom, so glad you got a call and that she seems to be doing well and on track. Sounds like she is in a little trouble with mom though lol. My daughter did the same thing with calling the boyfriend. But she called me first and then a couple times she called me again after she talked to him lol.
In addition to BattleStations, the blue candles can be "burned" anytime you are thinking of your SRs/sailors, as Lala said to show support. This continues once they are out of bootcamp. It is a wonderful way to remind us of our SRs/sailors and their service to our wonderful country!
I got my call yesterday...at the grocery store...I'm sure I had people ooking at me funny...I was afraid to move because I didn't want to lose my call! lol Got to talk to him for a good 20-30 mins...said he was homesick.. :( I asked all kinds of questions and made him laugh and feel better about being gone and discouraged.
Sandi. There may have been an issue with no a/c or something? Continue addressing your letters the same way, unless your SR tells you differently. Remember, the ship number is just the barracks. Divisions stay the same.
ProudGAMOM: You need to get your son to sign a waiver so that you all can talk to the "powers that be" up there about this. Otherwise, you cannot--only he can. He can ask for this and should be allowed to sign it to grant you permission. Then you can communicate with them.
I'm so sorry...Yes, please let us know what happens.
I also want to get you in touch with "Craig" who is on this site. Look under MEMBERS tab up top, "Craig" from Aurora CO...he is retired Navy and has a son in. He can give you the best way to handle this. He has helped many others with his advice. So please try to get in touch with him. I know discharge codes are very important if it comes to that...which we hope it won't.
I'm so sorry to hear that. My oldest just went in on 6/27/11 but last year his younger brother was told by our recruiter that he had to be off his meds for one full year and then he could go. I guess I need to look in on this some more.
ProudGAMOM - I hate to hear this about your SR. My son, and probably many others took meds for ADHD years ago. I haven't heard anything like this from my son, but he did tell me on the 1 call I got, that they were doing a psych eval on him because of it. If they discharge Mike for it, it will destroy him. I PRAY for both of them.
I finally got my call.....here is how it went down.
I decided to take the Collie for a walk, and had only gotten around the corner when the neighbor stopped to talk. Then the next neighbor wanted to talk...I suggested to the second one that she walk with me so we went further. (My phone is in my pocket this entire time on silent from work). The next thing we know is my fiance's truck is flying around the corner (He is on call all of the time network engineering stuff, I figured there was an outage and he had to quickly fix it). It dawns on me that he is on the phone, and I ask if he is headed to work...he said no, you have a phone call!!!!!
It was so great to hear her voice, she cried and I cried, she told me she has recruit crud (upper respiratory infection) we sat on the phone catching up for awhile, and I suggested that she save some time to call her dad, so we said our good byes....as usual as soon as we hung up I started the "Oh, I meant to ask her this, I meant to ask her that".
Then the phone rings AGAIN, her dad wasn't home, and she didn't have his cell number on hand....(I feel a little guilty, but I was secretly glad for this). So we talked more, and I called her best friend and we had the phones side by side (I don't know how to do the 3-way thing). It was a hoot!
It was so great to hear her voice even though it was scratchy cause she has been sick. PLUS she mentioned in her letter that she was AROC (I didn't know what that was, but she was replaced because she couldn't talk, I don't know if she can get that position back or not).
Yay 1dybugs mom! Love those phone calls!! as for the guilt.... enjoy it! i would!! i searched aroc navy bootcamp and this is what i found: Assistiant Recruit Chief Petty Officer: spoken AROC, abbreviated ARCPO (It is a position given to recruits, that means nothing after Basic). He is second to the RPOC: spoken RPOC, abbriviated RCPO, Recruit CPO. Sounds like an honor position!
Donna they say many of the recruits get it, that is why they call it recruit crud. Lots of people from across the country being exposed to new germs and living in large groups. It happens, don't even sweat it, I'm not, I know our kids will be just fine. Mine said she has watch from 2-4 am most of the time, this morning, she got 4-6 and was happy about that. lol
Mine also has the recruit crud. He says everyone is sick. He said the a/c went out in their ship (not sure for how long) and they had to go stay in the ship with the SEALS, but it is fixed now.
Got a call, also. Was so muffled I could barely understand him, but I know others have experienced this, also. So I just let him talk and tried to figure out what he was saying. Sorry to hear they are all sick so is my son, but helps to know that we are all going thru the same thing. Was worried yesterday but feel better after reading these posts - Thx
Someone mentioned a facebook page for those with the PIR of August 26 if I remember correctly. Could you please send the name of the page to me? Thanks.
As for all the kids that are sick right now, it reminds of when we sent them to daycare and they would catch colds. I think it is harder now because we can't be there to provide the tlc to make them feel better.
Unfortunately, most of the SR's will get the ricky crud. Some of them may not even tell you that they were sick until after they graduate (like my son) It's amazing how they can continue on with all their PT and studying while they are feeling sick. A lot of the SR's will not go to medical if they are sick, because they really want to graduate with their division. They really want to stay with their division and will muddle through in order to do that.
