Hi Pat! Yes, we received information about the adopt a sailor program. It's the program that adopts recruits during the holidays that they are at boot camp. They give them a good meal, etc. I'm not quite sure what the Molly's Adopt a Sailor program is or what they do, but it might be the same thing! I'm very interested! :)

I would love to come and help out. Since I have never participated in one is there anything special I should bring?

Hi Pat, my sailor is doing great! The nuke program didn't work for him. He was so stressed and it wasn't a god fit for him. He moved on to missle tech and is so much happier. He did sub school then missle tech school and graduated right before halloween. He was second in his class and chose Bangor Wa as his base. He is assigned to the Alabama! He has made great friends through his journey so far. I have been able to join him in his journey and have visited him in charleston (not the best time for him but a fun place) Groton neat place but he had to shovel a lot of snow last year. : ) kings bay ga for his C school. We had or family vacation there and stayed on ameilia island (he stayed with us on the weekends and had dinner with us every night) it was the best having everyone together including my dogs! My daughter and I are going to visit him in his new location in Bangor wa this month. I can't wait check out his new base. Kit sap and Seattle seem awesome. I haven't experienced him leaving yet (3 months will be a long time) it has been quite a journey but he has matured and seems quite happy. What more could I ask for. He is focused on getting his dolphins right now and seems quite driven. Hope all is well with you and your sailor. Happy new Year!

Yes I am Kims niece, been waiting awhile lol. I didn't know if I should just start a discussion and start posting deals in there or not. I asked on the fb page.

We have today and tomarrow then Alex leaves for bootcamp. My heart is pounding through my chest. I know he will do fine he is a strong young man. It is nice because he went through NJROTC. Alex has a bit of a jump start. Take care everyone. Does anyone else have a son or daughter leaving for Milwaukee Monday then going to bootcamp on March 13th?

  • chowchow

It is really close to spring now so if your planning a packing party please count me in.

    Hi Pat,

So that was YOU who put the Molly label on Jordan's card....what a great idea that was!!!

I am so happy that Jordan was flooded with cards from so many people.  It's just so great !

Will be keeping him in my prayers.

  • kayakhinkle

Sure did thanks!  One question - on the custom forms, should I just list "snacks"?  Or do I need to list them individually, i.e., popcorn bags, granola bars, gum packs, etc.   We aren't doing any toiletries this time.

  • chowchow

I tried writing you a week or two ago I bet I did something wrong.  I tell you I'm just not good at all this internet stuff.  But I continue to keep plugging at it.  I wanted to check last fall you said something about possibly having a packing party in the spring.  I just wanted to make sure I get the update on this.  It really sounds like fun & I would really like to meet some of all these special ladies including you of coarse.

    Hi Pat,

I thought you meant a friend request on facebook, then I saw your request here...I'm losing it!!! I did leave you a message on fb with my address.

  • MJ~ Erik's mom

    Hi Pat,

I just got the "Sox" bags in the mail....THANK YOU so much!  I will pack those with goodies to send in May.  Thanks for all your ideas.  When I got off the phone with you, I contacted the Boston Red Socks to see if I could get donations for the 355 May adoptees.  It's pending, so keeping my fingers crossed!!! If I get some time, next week I think I'll hit up the NY Yankees and the NY Mets....Having soooo much fun!!! Have a wonderful Easter! MJ

  • chowchow

Pat I hope Molly was talking about you she wrote on the adoption to go to the web site and get ahold of Pat to see if we can call my Sunday school class a packing party and then the shipping could be paid for.  That would be awesome as I was holding money back for shipping and limiting my class to 6 boxes.  This way we could do more packages.  The problem is I'm not sure what Molly was talking about by going to the web site.  I'm sorry I'm computer enept and limited on how to work all this. Ok you can laugh I do all the time, but I am an ok nurse, but us older nurses are more into writing and face to face than computer stuff.  Ha Ha

Ok We are now friends and my phone number is 417-773-2706 that is my cell phone.  I work evenings and have it on silent and quite often unable to answer then, but if you leave a message I will return your call.  Thanks for the information & I hope it is ok I put my phone number on this it was from the friends request.  Right now I don't have a date, but I know these ladies will love to have a packinging party so I will talk with them this week and after that I will call you for directions.  Just to make sure I'm on the right track.  Thanks for all your help you have helped me so much.

    Thanks!

    Tammy

  • chowchow

Pat I do have some questions can you please given me a number to call you.  Does the packing party happen before or after the mail date?  All kinds of questions.  I sent you my phone number if you get a chance give me a ring or I will call you?  My church group has all kinds of thoughts I just need directions on how to make it happen.  Thanks Tammy

  • MJ~ Erik's mom

Thanks Pat, Not sure what happened, but I couldn't find the address at first.

    All set!!

  • Kim

Hi Pat, Did your son get home yet?  Did you find anything more about the tumor? I hope everything is going well with you and your family.

  • Lorraine

    Hi, Pat,
The BFPO address would be a foreign address and very expensive shipping costs. However, if someone in the American unit would be willing to receive the packages for the foreign group, perhaps Molly's can help them that through our own military. If you decide to ship to the foreign address, you can still use flat rate boxes, but you're talking close to $50 for the large flat rate box and the weight can only be 20# or under. Let me know if you have further questions. If you have an address I can check on the cost.
  • LainerD

Hi Pat!  Thanks for the warm welcome.  Looking forward to learning the new project.  LainerD's Mom

  • ebigirl

Thanks Pat. I met a couple of very active mom's in Molly's Adopt A Sailor at a luncheon in Washington last month. Nancy and Susan. I've been looking for information regarding how to get on base (in Everett, WA) when a certain ship comes in sometime in the middle of June. Another mom suggested contacting the Ombudsman of the base. Is that your suggestion also?

Thanks for your help! Monica (Ebigirl)

  • MamaLamaDingDong: AO/Pensacola

  • rosewomn

Thank you for doing this. I will feel so good providing something special for your troops. I have some ideas already on what to send, I just need to double check they are o.k. to send then get them off.

  • tysmom

I may start a box this month ans finish it next month. We have back to back fairs. My youngest is in 4H.

  • MarianneKT's Mom

Pat - Can't seem to find the 'new Moms stop here so I can figure out the whole thing of sending packages and such.......Where in MI?  That's where I am.

  • MarianneKT's Mom

Yes, thank you.  I read through the items today. It all came together once I was approved and then went to the site to see the address.   My daughter was on a 'Gator' over in Japan.  I loved sending her 'shop' baked cookies and bars.  Katie's older sister also sent her baked goods and fudge from Fudge du Lockes in the Soo. Katie always shared the boxes of goodies.  No other mother in her Engineering shop sent homebaked treats, so I know how much the love to receive them.

  • DramaSoul

I am confused! Arghhh!!  I read the New Moms thingy but my brain is swimming.  So do I need to get approved first?

  • valeriejean

Hi Pat - Friend request accepted!  How can I help?

  • Disy (Ship12Div371)

Thanks Pat - glad to do this! We are getting some items together but just need to confirm that I ship it out last week in August?
  • Thetwoj

Hi Pat! I did join the group and I will be there on the 29th to help in whatever way I can. I'm really looking forward to it and to meeting everyone. I've been talking to friends about the program and after we are all done crying over sailors who have nothing coming from home, they all want to pitch in. I think it will be an amazing way to pitch in and do what I can for our troops. Thanks for letting me know about it!

  • karens (alumni ship 13-Div 366)

Thanks for your welcome Pat, yes my son is in BC 5 days now, its still emotional for me as haven't gotten the box or letter with his address yet, but have been writing every day and will send them as soon as the address arrives, my son also wants subs, scored 99 on his ASVAB so I am hoping that with good study habits and perseverence he will make it through A school, Nuke school and prototype. I am so proud of him, he is the baby and the last one to leave home, now its just me and the dog (who looks depressed as she can't figure out why his door is closed and its so quiet now.  Do I do just one box for one person or can I try to get others in my area to send them too?

  • Natalie

Pat, thanks so much -- I've put the Cantigny event on my calendar, and I'll be looking for you.  Would it be OK if I brought some of my Blue Star Banner posters along as well?  Even though it's a veterans event, there might be folks who are unaware of the grand old tradition...

  • KC'smom

Pat, you must be the only mom I've found besides myself who actually wrote "concerned or afraid"  in your profile above!!

  • Bluegrass and Bourbon

Hi Pat - I've been strugging for about an hour to find a list of whats needed (still needed) special hugs and which facilities are in the greatest need. I'm sure it's somewhere easy to find but I'm not having any luck. Must be brain damage from Black Friday shopping since the wee hours this morning...lol

  • Trevor's mom

First Molly's box on it's way to the USS Gonzalez.  I've already shipped 3 to my son which he has received one already. I think I'll do one a month just in care of the Molly group.

  • MichianaMom

Thank you for the welcome!  Hopefully I won't have too many questions.  Just saw your comment from October (!)...sorry. Yes, my son is going to be a Nuke, if all goes well for him.  He leaves for BC May 1st; it's been a long wait.  Thankfully, with the Navy for Moms groups I have been "learning" from, I think I am ready.  I know he is ready!

  • Kelly W

Thank you Pat. I am excited to participate!
  • Tyler'sMom

Thank you, looking forward to sending the first box!
  • Rhody Navy Mom

HI Pat, thanks for emailing me back.  I did find the address (FC2 N. Martin).  What form do I need for customs?  Then we can fill it out, just want to make sure I get it right.  Thx for your help!

  • KathyWQ

What about the single addresses that are out there?  Are they in need of care packages or just cards and letters of encouragement?    Kathy

  • Sandra (MA Mom)

    Hi Pat,

Thank you for the email.  Are there any groups in Northern CA (Sacrament area)?  Hoping there is a group here that I can join up with or get the info I'll need to start up a group in this area.
