Hi GG, I'm so sorry it's taken so long to write back. I've been at a conference for work. We are going to PIR as well. We received a call (the 5th) from him Monday evening. He has a stress fracture in his leg and has been put on light duty. He said he's still with his DIV though and if his leg gets better soon he will still be able to graduate with them. However, if he falls too far behind, he will be pulled until he heals and then have to graduate at a later date. I never thought I'd say this, but everyday I pray I don't get a call from him; I figure, no news is good news. He just needs to hang in there for three more weeks. Please, Please, Please! My husband and I will be arriviing in GL on the 7th and will drive to Ohio for a few days. We will return to GL on Wednesday though. I too, will be staying at the Navy lodge. As favors for my son's going away party, I tied dog tags engraved with his name Ship date and the words U.S. Navy to a blue candle using yellow ribbon. We've been burning these candle like crazy. Especially, now. We are also excited to go. Funny, my son also mentioned that their Div is loud. If I remember correctly, that's why they were IT'd. I just received my 2nd letter from him. I think he wrote it before Monday's phone call though. Well, take care. I hope all is well with you and your family.
Thanks for accepting my friend request and leaving me a comment. My SR is the youngest of my four children and my only boy. He signed with the Navy in Feb but had to wait until he was within 60 days of his 18th birthday before he could go to boot-camp. Thankfully, that gave us the summer with him. He'll turn 18 years-old ten days before PIR and it's hard to think about him hitting that milestone without his family around to celebrate it with him. Ugh. Having him gone has left a huge void in our household, but joining the Navy is what he's wanted to do for a long time so we do what we need to in order to cope with his absence. Anyway, I didn't get "the box" because he didn't bring anything worth the $70 it would have cost him for shipping. He just threw everything away- including his cell phone, which was an old one we had lying around for years. So far, I've received three phone calls. Yay! He sounds good but tired. He say's their DIV has been IT'd once. Okay, so enough about me. How are you doing? Tell me about your SR. Are you going to PIR?
Remember, names on the form letter are for you and do not have to be exact, but the names that he submits for the Access List 10 to 14 days before PIR need to be close to what is on each person's ID. See the info in the "Answers to Common Questions" section on the main page of Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). Take care and blessings to you and yours.
I see you found the PIR 11/15/2013 TG 01 group. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was out of town at a conference.
Your SR is most likely in the 11/15/2013 TG, but he could also be in the 11/22/2013 TG depending on when his division filled.
Yes, you will receive "the box" by USPS. Yes, it happens that a recruit (or several) do not have theopportunity to make the "I'm here!" call. See the info in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Phone Cards and Phone Calls.
No, the black wallet deos not have to be black. I say black because fewer black wallets get sent back, but recruits have been able to keep conservatively colored wallets as long as they are the smaller bi-fold or tri-fold style--Navy blue wallets, blue digi wallets and olive drab wallets have been kept as well.
Glad to have you as a friend...
BC is 7 to 10 weeks long; 8 1/2 weeks is average. (See Arrival and What Happens
at the RTC. ) Your future Sailor's recruuiter has a wicked sense of humor.
Since your future Sailor has a contract for Hospital Corpsman (HM), sometime between now and the end of BC, join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf; it indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask within one of the groups or directly to my page. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
