OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Kris, you don't know me... I saw your post while visiting Nuke Moms. I popped over here to ask if your profile picture is of your son when he was little? Because I have a picture of MY son in that SAME sailor outfit, taken at Sears 21 years ago!! He's a Nuke too -- a MM2 serving on the submarine ALABAMA. (Too weird, huh?!) Just wanted to say "hi." Hugs! k.

Hi Kris, A fast attack is a smaller sub. They carry about 150 men. Their other name is Hunter Killers. They either act as Carrier escorts or act alone monitoring subs of other countries or on other secret missions. Fast Attacks deploy for from 6 to 8 months. There is very little contact with them, but the guys do get e-mails. They also make port calls. My sons sub the USS Miami has been to London, Oslo and Scotland.
Boomers are balistic missile subs. they have two crews (Gold crew and Blue crew) and are on 3 month rotations. I don't know how many are on each crew but Boomers are much larger than Fast Attacks. They have no contact while they are out and they don't get e-mails. They also do not make any port calls. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Kris, I just talked to my son who is in A school in Goose Creek. They will be given a list of things they will have to have and given time to go get them at the NEX or local mall (very close by). They can't have a graphing calculator as It can store info on them. The one they are asked to get only costs about $20.00 at Next or with a military discount at Office Depot same price.
