I am a mother of a son who is waiting to leave for basic training. I am looking forward to the changes that the Navy will bring about in my son. Though going into the PACT program wouldn't have been my first choice for him, I am hoping that he will make the best of the situation.

When my daughter was in Sasebo for 3 yrs on the USS Essex/BHR, I would send all types of cookies and brownies.  Katie said to undercook them a little since they get heated up on the way over.  I packaged mine in freezer ziploc-type quart size bags.  Even if they arrive broken, they don't mind - they love homebaked.  I ended up having a 'cookie crew' - in her shop.  They even started requesting flavors they liked.  Sometimes I would send brownies in wax paper lined kleenex boxes and then wrap it with saran and send along a plastic knife.  Recently I started baking brownies in smaller foil pans that have the paperboard lids. When they come out of the oven I set Andes mints on top-when they are melted I swirl it a little. I've made peanut butter, chocolate chip, Andes mint, gingersnaps, caramel brownies, chocolate cookies with rolos in the middle....all different types of textures.  Happy baking!

Hey!  Jessica'smom posted what I believe to be her SR's last name in a post about 3 hours ago on the 6/17 board.  I have asked her to delete it, but if she doesn't in the next hour or so, can you delete it please?  I believe it to be a last name...not 100 percent positive but seems to be.  Last names are not allowed on the board at all!

Thanks!

Also, if you would like to put a picture icon for your 6/17 group picture, just "google" NAVY PICTURES, find one that you like, save it and add it!  There are tons of them out there!  It would replace the silhouette picture that is standard on this site!

Hello to all in this group.  My letter came Sat. 4/30,  my son is Ship 9,Div 205, We got the box last Wed.  Guess lucky so far, we have been on a close schedule to what Jessica B Sailor Mom has said.  She has great information.  My son's girlfriend and I are sharing calls, box and letters.  She got the honor of washing the clothes. If you haven't got your box be sure to check pockets, shoes and socks for things stuffed in them.  Now to start day dreaming about travel plans, my son told me before he left that it is much cheaper to fly to Milwaukee.  Same distance to base as O'Hara, less traffice and toils I also understand.

So glad to find someone with a son in the same division.  My son was in the group delayed in Atlanta because of weather.  The box is all we've received, too. Originally was to have been at RTC 4/19.  Do I remember you're posting earlier that you son was delayed because of weather also?  Thanks for setting up the group.

My son is leaving on April 20th also.  Time goes by so fast when you don't want it to, I have the feeling that the 8 weeks that they are gone will just crawl by.
