OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Since you have a Sailor, you can change "At Boot Camp now" above to “Enlisted.”

You can also update your "A little about me:" section to indicate that you have two Sailors.

If you get an error message, then look at the area/s in the error message and unclick all of the choices in the area/s and make choices closer to the question/s. Some choices may have changed since you joined.

Penny, be sure to make the other changes that I sent previously in a PM. (PM's are in the Inbox in the upper left.)

You are very welcome.

BTW, there are "Sailors" and there are "Recruits", but there is no such thing as a "Sailor Recruit." SR stands for "Seaman Recruit" and is what all recruits are considered while in BC regardless of what they will be after BC. See the Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), to help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

Master at Arms is a rating very dear to my heart since my Sailor was an MA. Join San Antonio MA's; the discussion, Break down week by week, will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio). You will also want to join MAA Moms. Other groups to check out are New MAA Mom's (it has not been very active) and Security Sailors (it is not very active and includes loved ones of Sailors from other ratings as well).

The Rating Information Card for MA can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ma.pdf (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.); it indicates 9 weeks, but "A" School is 7 weeks after classing up.

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to help you know how to plan your weekend.
