A little about me:
My name is Allie. My fiancee has been in the USN for about 5 years now but I am very new at deployment. He has been lucky and stationed on land bases for most of his career and has only had to endure one 9 month cruise deployment. Recently, we found out he was volunteered for another year deployment to Kuwait. So he is going through a training and then off to Kuwait and will hopefully be home August 2011. I am immensely proud of him and all he has accomplished and try to be supportive as much as I can. Although I am grateful he is not being sent to a war zone, I am having an immense amount of feelings of my own, and looking for support and want to support others who are feeling how I feel. So I look forward to meeting new people and together supporting our men. We love our troops!

Hi my name is Allie. My fiance just got to Kuwait today and I'm a mess. He left yesterday morning from a training camp in Ft Dix and I finally got an email from him this afternoon saying he was there and safe. I was so grateful to hear from him because I really thought it would be awhile before he emailed or called or anything. He said that he has a bit more of a ways to travel and once he gets where he is supposed to be going he would check on the internet and everything. I'm trying so hard to… Continue

Training finally over...

My fiancee has been in the military for about 6 years and was recently given an assignment to go and work out in Kuwait for a year as an MA (Master of Arms). It was very shocking because he was basically "voluntold" to go and we had to drop all of our plans such as getting married in a year or so and instead get ready for him to leave for a 2 month training in Fort Dix,NJ. I was very excited for him and definitely tried to make the best out of it because it was something new to add to his navy… Continue

Hey USNinlove,

I have a son who is currently at Ft. Dix training to be deployed to Kuwait/Iraq! He is scheduled to leave May 4th. We were under the impression he would have a week leave between training and deployment....but have recently learned that may not happen at all! I cannot imagine not seeing him again until April 2012!! He is very depressed at the idea as well. This is his first deployment and guess a little naive! He has a long time girlfriend and I think it is more difficult than he imagined leaving her!! I really need to see him before he leaves and do not understand why the military doesnt see the benefits of a soilder seeing his family before deployment??
