OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

Specific information on this policy change will be provided in the coming days and weeks.

I saw you on. I still suggest the changes below and perhaps change 4 as well.

At 12:43am on August 8, 2016, lemonelephant said…

Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) so that this page is no longer visible to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web. Don’t forget to click the “Save” button at the bottom.

m.y.o, also make change 2 to change the URL to this page so that it no longer contains your last name.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your Sailor.

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

Thanks, Cathy! I'm still in the Navy 101 phase of all of this, but I'm sure I will have tons of questions once we get past the first few weeks of RTC. I am going to email his recruiter tomorrow and get a copy of his contract, too, so I have all of that info.

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Hi Cathy!  Nice to meet you!  I know you've gone to bed as you are a couple hours ahead of me.  We used to live in Round Lake, of all places!  I didn't even know about RTC when we lived there-and to think we were only about 15 miles away!  My Sailor was almost 4 when we moved from there to So Cal-seems so long ago but then again it doesn't.  Went way too fast.  Anyhow, nice to meet you and will talk to you later!
