Patti - I am friend requesting you.  My son also did Sub stuff - he is stationed in Hawaii. I figured maybe I can help answer questions you may have about it

Got mail from boy child today - woohoo! Apparently they aren't forwarding his mail from his old division yet, hopefully it won't be lost.

He was told that in RCU he can receive reading materials - had you heard anything about that? Also, no movies, those have been "secured" and they only get phone calls and NEX visits once a month, because 4 people got together and messed it up for everyone. Poor guy!

I had joined the Ship 04 Div 741 group (which is actually Ship 02 Div 741 now) but it seems to be inactive and I have a question for someone whose kid is in RCU (Convalescence from injury). My kid wrote and said he heard he was allowed to be sent reading materials while he's in there. Do you know if that's accurate? I have a couple books I'm happy to send, if so.

I appreciate the info. I hadn't heard from him again since it happened over a week ago, and I see a letter is in the mail from him today - woohoo! I worry of course, but do think he'll be OK. His father on the other hand, can't sleep at night and is constantly talking about it - and he's ex-Navy. I feel for him! I know he's got this (my boy) but I do remind myself at times that he's only 17 and it's a lot on a kid! He is one who shows an incredible amount of maturity though, always has, so it's not really about the age number. It really is good to know about the kinds of things he'd be doing and that they do recognize it's a lot on a person to just be sitting there when they had plans for their future that didn't include RCU - an unintentional life lesson. Thanks for the info!

Thank you so much - that does help us plan. Praying he doesn't get a second injury! He was only able to call to say he was ASMOd a week ago and he hasn't been able to call since. The worst part is not knowing. I don't think the "no news is good news" feels the same when your kid is in RCU, but there is nothing to be done about that.

Patti, now that your son has his Sailor Cap, feel free to come join us in the Beyond BC group!! And you may reply to Trey's question there if you are not comfortable answering it on the public BC group page. Also, you may be vague if you like as well.

Hi Patti,

I posted a couple of ideas for gifts on your discussion, and B'sNukeMom posted a link to another discussion, I think, with graduation ideas.

I see that you joined the BC Mom group!! Welcome. I will post a hello there, so you can see it. I apologize, I generally try to be online throughout the day more, but I have had a lot going on with work lately and I can only be on for a short time in the morning on certain days.

Hello Patti - I see your loved one is still at BC. I would encourage you to come join us in the Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) - Navy For Moms (ning.com) group. When you join, be sure to scroll down past the information, past the discussions and then you will find the comment wall. That is really the best place to post your questions. More members receive email notifications for those messages and will reply. I only saw your general discussion question when it appeared in my latest feed and that wasn't until after I was logged in on my computer.

Once your sailor has passed BS21 and final PFA, then you may come join us in the Beyond BC group. Wherever you see blue letters, those are hyperlinks to other groups, articles, or information. Click on them to take you there.

I see you only joined this site recently. How much longer does your SR have at BC?
