I think my son will be enlisting very soon. He at least wants us to meet with the recruiter before he takes that next step. I find myself excited for him - he really wants to do this. Right now, at least, I'm not even too nervous about him leaving (but I'm sure that will change!). I don't know how long we will have between his enlisting and shipping out, or how often we will be able to be in contact - either by phone or in person. But I have a few more days to make my list of questions and…

Last night our family gathered at a local restaurant to honor my dad on his 77th birthday. Afterwards I went to my sister's home to plan my daughter's Anchors Aweigh party because my sister is awesome at party planning. The rest of the family, not wanting the evening to end, followed us back to her house and we spent sweet fellowship together as an extended family. As I reflect on these things this morning I am struck by the rich heritage my dad passed down to his family. A Navy man for…

I got up this morning and looked at all the beautiful pictures of Navy families proud of their Sailors. And I it inspired me so much that I needed to blog this. My daughter is just days away February 4, 2015 and everyday for me personally is bittersweet, I'm so proud of her bravery and ambition to want this. This was her goal for the longest yet I hate to see my baby go, but her Chief Petty Officer recruit visit our home, with such a sunny spirit and gave us the best reassurance of my…

I wake today in the early morn
My thoughts consumed with my first born.
He’s hard at work at Navy Recruit Training Command
I miss him so, he will never understand.
His voice, his charm and his big heart,
Are with me as each day starts.
His big blue eyes and awesome smile,
I carry with me all the while.
No call, no mail, no contact yet.
But today is a day we will never forget.
It pains me that you are…

I can't believe I'm almost an empty-nester! Seems I've been waiting for this a loooong time. And yet.... I know I will miss them all! Let me tell you a bit about my journey. When I married their dad 26 years ago, I wanted nothing more than to be a stay-at-home Mom and wife. Through God's grace, I had the privilege of doing just that. I was able to manage a busy household of five on one income, paid once a month at the end of the month for 21 years. God led us to home educate…

Is there any way to get extras tickets for my sons Boot Camp Graduation? I have been told we only get 4, and I could use 2 more.

1/26/15 As I miss my boy each day (its only been 6 days today) I took refuge on N4M only to feel so overwhelmed by it all. Its a great thing to have this site but there's so much info and so many groups the only consolation I have is seeing all the other mom's who are missing their sons/daughters too:)
I am not sure what to do next. I don't know his PIR (oh and all the acronyms I'm on information overload) I've already sent 5 letters as I did get his correct address from our…

Our son will receive his wings soon and I know nothing about the ceremony, nor do I have any ideas on a gift? Any ideas would be appreciated.

My SR got to call home Sat. and I was so excited to hear from him. He told me that he was doing good but he has never been as cold as he is now. He could not believe that they have to get up so early. I laugh because I thought back to when I was in BC and we had to get up real early and could not talk to anyone until we got through with training at the end of the day. He also told me that they made him through away all of his candy. I told him he would be okay. It will be over before…
