The flight went off without a hitch. I do suggest bringing your own snacks and definitely buying a bottled water once past security. We arrived hungry and THIRSTY. Beverages were free but we are big water drinkers.
It also helps to keep anything you want to “do” in your purse or smaller carry on. That way you don’t have to get into the one you’ve stored up top. I REALLY did not want to bonk anyone in the…

Happy Memorial Day to all! As I watched the Today show this morning, they showed different people honoring our fallen heroes. Of course, tears filled my eyes. Although I have always appreciated our military, I was never very involved. With my son's upcoming departure, I now have a deeper connection with our service men and women. I feel so grateful for their sacrifice of time away from their loved ones. I am especially thankful for the ones who have fought for us and lost their lives…

Our son attended MEPS in april and he scores a 96 in ASVAB, but the recruiter had messed up his paperwork and he ended up in DEP with a shipout date in december.
He is really disappointed because he was so ready to go to bootcamp immediately. He has put in a request to go early ship out date.
Is therw a way to check if the request was recieved? does anyone know how long it takes for a request to go early takes?

Beginning June 13, 2011, at 8:00 a.m. EDT, all military members and their
families can use one number- 877-272-7337 (U.S. Toll Free) to send an urgent
message to a service member. The change means that all military members and
their families can use this single number to
initiate an emergency communication, regardless of where they live.

My son leaves in July and he also has been saying, "this is my last holiday, the little birdie is flying from the nest...". I reminded him that he will come home on occasion and we will travel to visit him also. It's not like we won't ever see him again. He said he felt patriotic when our band was playing the Armed Forces medley and wanted to stand up for the Navy. He is ready to leave now, so he says. Enjoy the time that you have left with your "civilian"…

The Booth.
So, we peel off everything we are supposed to and I go through the detector, start to walk off ...and it buzzes.
???
The agent pointed to the box/booth behind her and in I go.
Ya know...it would figure...my I-Love-Lucyness came out.
Forgot to empty my pockets. Had extra suitcase locks in them.
Which turned out to be a good thing as I forgot to put them on my luggage! I had asked the Team to put them on the checked bags and assumed they…

My son leaves in Aug. and I was doing well until the Memorial Day Services today at the High School I work at. It made my brain run into over drive. One of the things that hit me was the number of times in the last three months my son has said “Well this will be my last…..” (Easter at home, Fourth of July with the family, ect.) I know he is thinking ahead and wanting to get in as much FAMILY time as he can but REALLY “my last” is not the words. I am so proud of my youngest son for…

So frustrated with the base housing here, actually it is right outside base. Our grass is almost up to my knees, they have only mowed it once and it's almost the beginning of June. Everyone here has small children, and I think they should mow the grass, because it is safer for the kids. There is no air conditioning, these hardwood floors are a pain to keep clean, especially with a one year old, and everytime we try to get a new light for the downstairs bathroom they say they don't have them…

Once the remaining members of the fireteam were ready, we piled into the POV and set off to meet up with PUBTRANS to get us to the AP.
The Flyaway Bus.
We made it in the nick-of-time to catch the 05:15 AM bus. Flight leaves at 07:00.
Yes, I was cutting it close.
Everyone was pleasant and helpful so far and it continued at the AP. The line to go through security was ASTOUNDING! I had no idea.
Does the term "cattle call" come to mind?! Mooooo.
Luckily…

NOTE: This Mission started on the 2011/05/24 but was not published due to extreme fatigue.
Day 1 is at a close and it is late and I NEED to go to bed! It's hard too though as I am thoroughly enjoying myself! There is one cloudy situation for me but it is of my own doing and I will write about that later. ;-)

Well this is a first for me in several ways. My son left for boot camp on May 4th. We did get the call that night and it was very quick and to the point. Then a week later we received a call from him regarding medical issues. I received his first letter last week and it was so sad. He is really home sick and still on hold in medical. This is really frustrating because he apprently just sits in a room all day long and does nothing. I understand that they want to make sure everything is…

"I am joining the Navy." When I heard my youngest child say those words, a huge lump formed in my throat. I am not afraid for him to be in the Navy. In fact, I am really proud. My problem is that he will be away from me for the first time in his life. I don't mean sleepovers and stuff. I mean away away - out of my reach - and out of my control. My husband says it is time to cut the umbilical cord. I'm trying.
As a mom, of course I want my children to grow into…
