missing my boy and only three days in.

I hope this gets easier because as of now I'm a mess. He's only been gone for three days. I keep on thinking what he is going through in boot camp. He's in Chicago.

Saying goodbye today...

I am leaving in a few hours to meet my son for breakfast and say goodbye, as he leaves for Great Lakes, IL in 4 days. I am nervous, excited, scared, and sad all at the same time. How do you watch your son/daughter go off into a military service with hesitancy and basically fear of the unknown. He's nervous about PT, as he isn't athletic. He was always the kid in boyscouts that got homesick when he went camping. Knowing he (and I) both have seperation anxiety, how do you be strong for them, so… Continue

Yay!

I just received three letters from my sailor!! The first I've heard from him in two weeks. He didn't get to make his check-in call because the phone he was at wasn't working and when he got to another one, time was up. So I was very glad to get that explanation and hear how he is doing. It made me very sad to hear that he's sad, though. Missing me and wanting to come home. But of course he knows this is all going to be worth it. He's worried about passing his physical tests like running 1.5… Continue

so many questions

First of all I would like to say that this site has answered sooo many of my questions! My son left for boot camp 6-23. I have gotten his box and his first phone call. I am going nuts to know when I can expect the form letter letting me know when his graduation is and getting his return address so that I can finally write to him. I can't wait to hear from him so that I will know what all he is going through. He was very sick before he left so I am just praying that he is ok and well.

How do I plan this out?????????

First I've wanted to say since starting with this site,it's probable one of the most informative and engaging sites i've come  to love. And the support here is unbelievable. With that said, Here is my situation. I'm flyin into Milwaukee Field next month for my daughter graduation. Why because Mitchell Field is a much easier airport to get through, I've been there and the O'Hara. I have every intent to rent a car, but I find out today the cars are 4xs the cost at the airports than they are if  I… Continue

It has only been 2 days

My husband and I dropped our daughter off at the recruiters office Monday and our last verbal contact with her was last night at 11pm.  I have done my crying and now I am excited about her accomplishments and attending her graduation.  I reminded her that these 9 weeks are temporary and that in the end the feeling of accomplishment will be the best feeling she has ever had and no one will ever be able to take that from her.…

1 week tomorrow

Today, one week ago, the recruiter picked up our son, yes on Father's day at 4 pm.  He got to basic on Monday.  Does anyone else have a son or daughter in that time frame?  Where do we find out their expected grad. date, so that we can make travel arrangements?  This past week has been full of many emotions...from being sad and crying to my heart being filled up with pride.  I wonder what he did today and the day before and the day before.  I read that they had 5…

where do I stay???????

I received my first letter from my S.R. daughter just yesterday and this will never stop being so strange and emotional for me. I was like a kid, I read the letter 3-4 times. I knew I would miss my daughter just never knew this would be such a rollercoster  ride. I've made arrangements to stay at the Comfort Inn in Waukegan, but have not read many reviews on pros and cons of the hotel.  Anyone that has had an experience there, please let me know. Money kinda tight and I need to make good… Continue

1 Week Down

Well, I've gotten a week and a half under my belt now... only at the one week mark for my sailor in RTC. I feel good that I've made it this far without becoming a basketcase but then I remember I'm only a week in :(. I celebrated our 6 month anniversary by myself and won't celebrate another one with him until our 1 year. I knew what I was getting into and I could not be more proud of his decision or more happy for the stability we will enjoy for at least the next five years, but on this end…

Mom to Navy

My name is Amber. I've decided to join the navy. I have a son and I was wondering

how it was being in bootcamp and school knowing you have a child at home. I know

it will be hard but I am determined to get through this. My main goal is to be able to

provide the life my parents couldn't give me. My son is 2 years old. I was worried that

He wouldn't remember me also. Or I would get used to not having him around &

vice versa and we both have to adjust again. I don't… Continue

My son leaves on the 23rd of August, too!  It does seem that after so many months of waiting, it's coming very soon.  I hope he's ready, and we are, too!
