Saying Goodbye

My son leaves for boot camp on Tuesday morning. I knew this would hard, but I have been crying for days and he hasn't even left yet. I am so proud and so sad. How did the last 18 years go by so fast? How on Earth are we expected to let them go?

Getting there and so proud

We have 5 weeks left until PIR for our girl. We got to talk to her a week ago and that  helped but also made it hard again.  This has definitely been a life experience for her but also for our family. We are all so proud of her and continue to count down the Friday's to see our SR. We have been writing letters and continue to pray that with each day, that she is also getting stronger and learning so many new life skills.

I have to thank this site for so much comfort and information. …

Its Official I am a Mom of a Seaman Recruit

As of yesterday I am an official mom of a Seaman Recruit.  My Son left for Bootcamp yesterday.  I received 2 calls from him last night.  One when he landed in Chicago and the scripted call.

I joined this site in May 2013 when my Nephew entered Bootcamp. In November my Son joined the DEP, and yesterday he shipped.  I am quite proud of myself, I am doing ok  I thought I would be in really bad shape.  I know he is doing what he wants to do and I am so proud of him.  He was so…

One week down.

My son left for boot camp 1 week ago today.  I'm still feeling sad, happy for him at the same time but not what I expected.  Very difficult not being able to talk to him and at least get an idea of how he is feeling.  Being able to encourage him through things I guess was more helpful for me than I realized, cause that is what parents do. I know he has made a great choice and Im confident he will do fine.  Looking forward to boot camp graduation but in the back of my mind I know I'm going to…

I'm back and preparing for kid #2 to meet with the recruiters - looking for PIR 5/10 of 2013'

Hi,

So most of you know me as Liz's mom ship 14 division 179 from 2013, and some of you know what that was like.  She's doing great now, working full time and going to college part time.

So now it's my Son's time to start the enlistment process, and to be honest, I'm scared.  I've been through the I didn't pass my PFA, to Fit, and then she got hurt went to RCU, her cousin and BFF dies of Ovarian Cancer, and was Sepped.  I'm really nervous, and hiding the fact that I'm really…

Navigating the Navy...and being completely lost!

I recently started dating a submariner (further more to be referred to as Hercules) on the USS Alabama and he truly is the most wonderful man I have ever known...right after my father of course. I've never been seriously involved with a man in the Navy before and its all so new and shiny...and confusing!

He tries so hard to keep me updated on whats going on and explain things to me but it all gets lost in translation. Not to mention its barely been a couple of months and…

challenge coins

Good Morning ladies,

Can someone clear up my confusion over challenge coins.

I have read that they are awarded by a unit leader.  I see a lot of parents getting the coins for there SR for boot camp.

Should that be correct?

I would really like to know a correct official clarification.

Thanks
