My SR seems to be doing pretty good out there in GL. He's got 28 days to go i believe thank goodness! But in his latest letter to me he said during his latest physical they discovered a hernia and is getting surgery immediately after boot camp, and will be residing there under recovering for an additional 6 weeks before he  can actually go to South Carolina. Now, I know that he'll be in good hands out there..but i'm so worried about him. He'll be out there getting surgery like..all alone and i don't think anyone is gonna be there to see him in the hospital and stuff :( i wrote back i was like well tell me what hospital, and where i can send "get well soon goodies" he told me he should still be home by Thanksgiving and he'll have his phone on him. Which i guess is the plus side i'm just sad about not being able to be there while he's recovering or see him in the hospital:( He said that he's just going to help out around base and what not apparently (during the 6 weeks) then go to A School. I feel so bad for him. He's probably so stressed out. :(

my son PIR'd 8/12 and has been on medical hold and released 3 days later...he is on ship 5 and says it's like a hotel compared to his barracks.  He has a cyst on the side of his face.  He also has corrective eye surgery scheduled in December in Norfolk.  go to www.bootcamp.navy.com and go to familes and read up on ship 5.  You will be put at ease...i know it's rough being away from them when they are sick - but they will TAKE good care of him.  my Sailor was really excited to see 4 to a room instead of 70 and the was stoked about the memory foam mattress and tv and of course his phone...it is so funny to seem him get excited about the comforts of living instead of having to face his RDC everyday.  He has had watch duty and new recruit duty waiting on his A school starting next week.  God Bless
