Hello everyone, new to group. Thank you for the add. My daughter is graduating from college in May and reports to OCS mid June. This has been the plan for some time but as we are getting closer, I realize that there is soooo much that I don't know. I am trying not to inundate my daughter with my questions. I am sure that there are even more things that I don't know yet that I don't know.
Example of something that I don't know: I am driving her from MA to RI to drop her off at OCS (she is not bringing a car). How do we accomplish this if as civilian I am not allowed on base? (seemingly simple task that I don't know how to go about.) Do I just drop her at the gate and she walks from there?
Again, as our family moves further into/through the process I am sure that I will have more questions (and lots of feelings). We did ok with her being so far away in the four years of college, MA to IA, but that seems so tame now considering.  Thank you again for the add to this group. I welcome any and all advice.

Welcome to N4M - I just wanted to say hi so you knew someone saw you ask. I am not as familiar with the Officer side of things as the enlisted but there are some groups on here for Officers.

With my posting here, you can at least click on my picture and it will take you to my profile page. I have to be gone for awhile but if no one else reaches out to you, I will try to connect you with some other officer moms or groups.

Hugs!

Thank you for your reply and efforts. It was so nice to hear from you.

Welcome to N4M. Join the OCS and Officer Moms groups in here:

Those members have/had kids/spouses that went to OCS and can help you with questions that you can post in each group. They will see the questions more readily in those groups than in this forum post.

I will also ask some of my N4M friends with OCS kids to send you friend requests to provide you info along this journey!  Also accept the friend request I sent you.

LeAnn

LeAnn, Thanks!!!

MhdMom26 - You will be in good hands with LeAnn and those in the groups she shared with you!

Thank you for the reply and the link information. I have a sense of relief already that I now have access to information and not adrift in this process.  I will definitely get busy with reading past  posts to see what topics have already been discussed. So happy right now. Thank you again.

Hi MhdMom - We drove my son to OCS quarantine in December and pulled up to the gate and a very serious young man asked if I had orders and I literally didn't know what he was talking about.  My son said he had orders and we dropped him at the gate with a duffel bag and weren't allowed to proceed past the gate.  I got out of the car to hug my son and made a U-turn.  Apparently, if my husband or I were military we would have been able to go farther but we are not.  And that was the beginning of an amazing (and confusing) process, that another mom I have connected with accurately describes as "clear as mud."  My son is 10 weeks in now and I sent you a friend request and maybe I can answer some questions for you that I had just a few weeks ago.  Good luck to your daughter! -Judy

Hi Judy, Thank you for your reply. I am mentally preparing myself for the "clear as mud" process. I hope all is going well with your son.

At this point, I am still figuring out what my questions are. So much that I don't know, just taking it step by step and drop off seemed like a logical first step and I stalled out there and gladly found this group just as the panic set in. I appreciate yours (and everyone's) time. -Amy

Hello MhdMom26. How long did the entire journey take for your daughter from start to 1st day of OCS? How long did it take for your daughter to receive the board results? How long after the board results were received did your daughter have to report to RI? My son's packet was scheduled for the board on 4/12 & he's anxious to get going. Just wanted to get a snapshot of what may be expected.

Hello NavyplusArmy, & welcome to N4M's! I rec'd an email notice that you posted a question on the Moms of Officers page but when I followed the link provided, I wasn't seeing your question to be able to reply. Then I saw that you posted here so, here's the timeline with my son who just graduated OCS on March 12, 2021. His journey started in Oct 2019 when he enlisted as a "dual processor" which meant that if his OCS application didn't get selected he would have gone enlisted instead. His application was reviewed by the Board on Feb 10, 2020 & he was notified of his acceptance on Feb 27, 2020. It was a looong 2 weeks! Hang in there!

From there my son was originally scheduled for OCS in August 2020 but then covid happened & caused lots of delays with class start dates as the Navy worked to set up quarantine procedures, etc. So, my son finally went in Oct 2020.

Best wishes to you & your son!

Hello NavyplusArmy 1, my daughter is still in the process. Her college graduation is in a few weeks,5/1. She is a delayed entry. She knew early on in college years that she wanted to apply for OCS after college so she started working with recruiter in Jr year with the understanding that final acceptance would be upon graduation (transcripts).  So I don't think her timing on any of these process are typical or can give any indication of typical turnaround. Her expected report date is currently 6/19 (for quarantine) & 7/4 (OCS). Hopefully these dates don't get pushed back after graduation, she is ready to move onto this next step. (we have all been in a wait mode for a while.)

hopefully your son hears something soon.
