Hi.  My son arrived on 11/29.  He got to call home today!! He said he bought a phone card.  My question is, can I send him a phone card, or is that not allowed?

Thank you in advance.

He probably won't need a second card while he is there. My son has been out of bootcamp since September 2020 and still has the phone card he bought while at bootcamp. I think at most, he may be asked to open the envelope in front of the RDCs so they can verify it doesn't include any banned item. Hopefully someone more current with BC happenings will comment!

Thank you so much.

My son arrived 11/23. And I haven’t heard from him or get a form letter yet. The only call I got was when he arrived. I’m worried

Krystal:  was he vaccinated?  If not, he will have. 2 week quarantine before going into bootcamp. It’s usually 4-5 if they quarantine before the form letter. If no quarantine, around week 3 to the beginning to week 4. With Christmas delays, it may throw off the mail too. I didn’t receive a call until the weekend before PIR. And that was the only call I got besides the arrival call. Didn’t even get the I’m a sailor call. His division didn’t make them. So I didn’t hear from him again until he was on the way to the airport to head to A School.

My experience is from 2020 (July-September) so my timeline could be off with all the changes

Krystal - if there is a change of status he should be able to call you - otherwise it is "No News is Good News". Is there by chance anyone else that he would have sent the form letter to?  Hopefully it will arrive next week.

No I am the only one. My other son that got there on November 9. I got his form letter on the 8th of this month and he called me that Sunday the 12th.
He should’ve gotten out of quarantine on the 7th

Krystal,

I don't know what to say other than "No News is Good News". Each division and also some ratings will have different schedules than another division. You mention that it was a month before you received the letter from your first SR, so that is likely the scenario for your 2nd SR and it has not been a month yet. Also, some SRs are assigned jobs that might mean they miss an opportunity to call home when the rest of the division does.

I did not know about this site when my son went to BC and looking back, I am actually still glad that I did not know about it. It is easy to compare our experiences with another, or think that if one person's loved one went in at the same time as ours we can compare and assume we will have the same result that but is not always the case.

I don't know why Olaf's son was able to call and yours has not but as my husband would say, "That's the way the cookie crumbles."  We have had several moms send multiple children through BC close to each other, it is tough! BNMHs! (Big Navy Mom Hugs)

Thank you for the kind words. My SRs are two weeks apart in bootcamp. November 9th and the one I haven’t heard from yet is November 23rd.

Olaf - I agree with Shanny, he most likely will not need another phone card.

Thank you so much.

My son left for bootcamp on Dec 16, 2021. Do they send all their personal items home including their cell phone in a box? I watched the documentary and it shows they send it home. I was hoping he would have his phone when he graduates and travels to A school.
