The USS Annapolis is currently participating in ICEX 2009 in the Arctic. Below are some compelling photos, including a couple showing some of the crew. Higher resolution versions are available for download on http://www.navy.mil/ , then click on 'Information Index', the letter 'P', and 'Photographs'. Then type "annapolis" in search box to get to them quicker. Typing "hartford" will also bring up many photos of the damaged sail, including the one I include down below...

Annapolis and the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Helena (SSN 725) are participating in ICEX 2009 to operate and train in the challenging and unique environment that characterizes the Arctic region.

Helmsmen Sonar Technician 3rd Class Zach Howe watches a depth gage aboard the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Annapolis (SSN 760) during a stationary ascent through approximately three feet of ice in the Arctic Ocean.

USS Hartford as it pulls into Bahrain following collision with USS New Orleans in the Strait of Hormuz. The tarp covers a large opening torn into the sail. Note the scrape along the entire top edge of the sail, and the sheared metal at the base of the sail, where it joins the pressure hull. This damage, being outside of the pressure hull, did not endanger the safety of the crew, but must be repaired for the boat to be seaworthy and continue it's mission.
