Army Group in Haitii

Sue asked me to help identify a worthy, needy group and I have found one that I hope we can do in March.  For us to make the final decision, we need to know what people have in their stashes.  Here is the stash count to date:

12 - Kim
12 - Tamara
40 - Lyn (20 of each)
30 -  Pat (VA)
30 - Dawn (17 M and 13 F)
12 - Sheryl G.
50 - Matt's Mom
2 - Donna (maybe 5 more)

Okay, without Sue or me, we have 187 so we will have them covered!  I will write the contact today with our offer.  In the meantime, if you are not already my friend, please make me your friend so that I can provide you the address.

The unit we are proposing is an Army unit that is deployed to help in Haitii.  The living conditions are actually worse than what they have experienced in Iraq and some have mentioned in passing that it would be easier there.  But they also recognize the valuable humanitarian work they are doing.  HAE pillowcases would assure them that Navy Mom love is coming their way. 

There are 180 soldiers in the unit, 100 are males and 80 are females.  So we can have fun.

I have been telling Sue that I want to do some fun things, some that are whimsical ... whatever that is.  Let's see what you define as whimsical.  Now if you don't have any whimsical ones in your stash, don't worry.  We want the numbers.  I have yet to see a pillowcase made for HAE that I haven't thought was great.

What I am going to ask is that sewers have a minimum of 12 in a box to be mailed to Haitii.  They will easily fit in a medium box and can have notes or some other goodies, like snacks ... MREs get old.  But that would mean that the coordinator would only have to expect 15 boxes.

BUT don't feel left out if you only have a few.  You can mail then to either Sue or to me and we will cluster them into a bigger box.

When we know for sure, we will give a narrow window for mailing.  This is to help the coordinator.  They will all arrive (hopefully) within a few days of each other.  The target date for mailing will be the weekend of March 19 if they are going directly to Haiti and the weekend of March 12 if they are coming to Sue or me.

UPDATE:  I finally received an e-mail from the chaplain's office for the group in Haiti.  It turns out that group is being recalled early; however, we also received the names of two other chaplains whose units will still be there.  The e-mail for one of the contacts was provided and I have written to him.  I explained Heads at Ease and told him that we would like to adopt his unit.  I also asked for numbers.  I have not yet heard back from the chaplain.

This is one of the reasons why knowing the stashes each sewer has is so useful.  When I proposed the project, I needed to know if we could do it before writing.  Then it fell through.  If we know what we have available, we can do the background work before hand.

This group is not definite as yet. Dori is still waiting for confirmation from the contact.

Question. Did you make whimiscal ones for this specific group? if yes, then hold them for 2 more weeks.

If they are more of a general nature, then you could mail to the new medical unit that I posted in the "March is here" thread.
