my daughter arrived 3/23.she is in ship04 div192.any more from that unit
My son is in that ship and division. I got my first letter from him yesterday and he sounds like everything is going good.
Became a member moments ago. Our 4th son left for RTC on March 23rd and is on Ship 14, Division 190. Got the call, the box, and the form letter with 4 lines of "don't worry, mom, I'll be fine" on it. He had 5 years of military school and JROTC, so is very prepared, I think. He was certainly eager to go and get the show on the road! PIR according to the letter will be May 21st. No letters from him yet - I've sent several and his girlfriend has as well. We live in NC. His 89 year old Grandma (my mom) lives in Indpls and hopes to ride with us to graduation. I'm holding up pretty well. I know he will do very well with this structure and it was what he dreamed of doing. I'll be glad when the bc is over, though, so we can communicate once again. Any advice? Any others in the same ship/division?
Hi My son is also on ship 14, Division 190. I was working when the first call came in at midnight, got the box as well but we expected that. I was out when the 2nd call came & I hope I don't miss the next one. I haven't received a letter yet...just a few lines along with the grad info. Were really looking forward to that. This site really helps. It seems your son is very prepared for boot camp and will do very well.
Thanks! I actually got the first letter later on yesterday after I wrote my message here. He said basic was going great and that he was in a good group. Said "I'm getting really ripped - LOL!" so I think his sense of humor is intact. He added that they were only allowed to write on Sunday for a few minutes and that as of that day (Easter Sunday), no incoming mail had yet been handed out. He said they were supposed to start getting their mail last week sometime if they did well. Short letter, some copies of insurance paperwork included, said to tell everyone hello and to write back. So we'll just keep waiting for more. I really hope I get a call sometime in the next couple weeks. I would love to hear his voice again. :)
I'm so happy for you :) It must be a relief to have heard from your son. We are still waiting for a quick note. So glad their in a good group. I can't wait for their PIR and to hear some stories. Take care.
Oh, I hope you get a letter soon. My son's girlfriend didn't get a letter until today, even though he wrote both letters on Easter Sunday. His letter to her said the same thing about being in a good group of guys who were all trying hard to do well as a team. He also said that the basic wasn't as awful as a lot of people say. That he was handling all the yelling-at-them stuff pretty well because he knows that it is all part of the training, learning to control your temper and breaking-down-the-individuals-to-build-up-as-a-team thing. I hope your letter arrives soon - hang in there!
:) Got a 15 minute phone call on Wednesday. It was so good to hear from our son. He sounded good and very positive. He got to chat with his younger brother and sister. He also said it's a good group and sounded excited about moving on with training. Hope all continues to go well. Hope all is well with you ! Take care :)
My son Matthew just arrived in Great Lakes yesterday, and I have a void in my heart. How long did it take for you to receive the packet of infomation on the address and graduation date?
Oh, hang in there purplelis! It will come! We received "the box" exactly 1 week after Matt left and the letter came three days after that. The box had no info but the form letter afterward did. It is about 4 pages long - mostly form letter stuff - with 4 lines at the bottom where your son will write you a VERY brief amount of info, like. "I'm here! I'm doing OK! I love you!" ...and that's about it. It includes info about his address, what you can mail and what you cannot, and his PIR date, as well as the "four names" that go on the guest list for PIR. Then about 10 days after that, I got a very short letter. It was his third Sunday when he was allowed to write and it took until Saturday to reach me. As for the void in your heart, :( ..... mine is still there.
Wonderful! Our son is on Ship 14, Division 190.
Hope our son can call tomorrow. Just heard from him on Thursday, but it is never enough.
