Hello, Male Spouse here!

Ones my wife is out of A School and I move with her to her new station... How many times and for how long should I expect her to be deployed for during the whole 4 years period? I am totally fine with the a weee, 1 month,  or away... I am asking as far as the BIG LONG DEPLOYMENTS (6+). how many of those should I expect from her being active duty 4 years.

also, I think she told me they gave her ABH and she went in as a E3.  what can you tell me about that job, and if that helps you out as far as telling me deployment lengths as well..... hope to hear from you guys soon!!!!!

As the size of our Navy shrinks, our ships (and everyone) is expected to do more today. I would tell you a good long deployment once a year is probably realistic. The good news is...ships do have to go into the yards for maintenance and those are usually happy days for the families.

Is your wife in Pensacola now for schooling? Have you joined the Pensacola group - I bet they can give you some great information about her rate -
When you say ships have to go into the yards, what do you mean by that?? And roughly how much each year will I be with her between deplyment? And how long are they? She is abh, or abe
Thatnks for breaking it down to me hoppi, you really explained how this thing works! God I hope its more like 2 deployments lol. But if its not then I will stand by her either way! Just be pretty lonely :o( so she will hardly be coming home to sleep ha??? Bummer lol, thanks for filling me in though!
can u explain what the sea shore rotation means exactly???
My wife is trying to change her job from abh to nurse, is this possible before completing bootcamp? Or will she most likely be stuck with this abh thing for a year or two?
Hoppi is correct - she would need a college degree to get into a nurse program. If she wants to switch to the hospital corpsman rate - forget about it - they need the aviation rates a lot more, corpsman is a hard rate to get into. I would dispute some of what you've read about number of deployments that are likely. In a four year enlistment, two six month deployments are likely - at most three, but not four. Another issue regarding yard periods - unless I'm mistaken, the ABH rating is attached to an air wing, not to a ship, so yard periods don't matter. I could be wrong about ABH specifically being attached to an air wing though, since I'm much more familiar with subs.
Hay mark, thanks for the feedback brother. Good to see a guy on here. 2 deployments and maybe three definetly sounds better than 4. I heard they made deployments longer though... is this true? My wife has a college degreee in criminal justice... are u a male spouse?
Deployments are sometimes extended to nine months, but the Navy's goal is to limit them to six - nine month deployments kill retention. I'm a vet that has worked for the Navy as a civilian for twenty years or so. Sounds like your wife would have been a natural fit for the MA (Master at Arms, Navy MPs basically) rating. Most likely the recruiter tried to sell her on it, I would think. They usually wind up at shore commands. working closely with base security, but also have higher than average chances of being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan as Individual Augmentees,
She actually wanted to do mp but all they had available was flight deck or a deck as they call it so she took that... her rate is abh. Aviation boatsmate I think... so how likely is a 9 month cruise?
