It usually takes 3-4 weeks before you get a letter, at the beginning they can only write on Sundays, and only mail on Sunday also. As time goes by they find little pockets of time where they can write more often, but again can only mail on Sundays. But they can receive mail everyday, so write a lot, send cards, attach pics he may like to share with his bunkmates to your letter. They have minimal space to keep things, keep that in mind when sending him letters/cards. He will give it all back to you at PIR.
Ask anything you want this website is loaded with answers! We're all here for you. Everyone has been thru the same thing. Good Luck to you
You may get several different addresses, one from his recruiter, then one from the official letter (which you should be getting any day) and then another one as the return address on his first letter home. Don't panic, he will get all of his mail eventually, but once you start getting letters from him, use the return address on the envelope. As long as you have his division number correct, the mail will reach him.

A few tips: don't send musical cards until you find out if his RDC tolerates them (some do and some don't).
Print photos out on regular paper so you can write on the back and they can be folded up easily. Send him some stamps (he can use the official stationary for his letters to you). Also an activated phone card in case he's lucky enough to be awarded a phone call home. As Kathy says, their storage space is tiny so no bulky envelopes.

Finally: no cutesy stickers on envelopes! The RDC's will pick up on that and your recruit will never hear the end of it. They spend their whole boot camp experience trying to "fly under the radar" and to do their jobs without being singled out.
