JULY'S ADOPTION!!!Happy Second Birthday to Molly’s Adopt a Sailor - Let’s Celebrate!!

Happy Second Birthday to Molly’s Adopt a Sailor -

Let’s Celebrate with our July Group!!

Two years ago on this date (June 27th), Molly invited a few of her friends to help celebrate her 44th birthday by giving instead of getting.  Here is an excerpt from her blog:

I think we N4M could make a big difference in some sailor’s lives if all of us would just write one letter.  Geez, we did this in boot camp
we can do this again.
Just one letter, postcard or package a month.

Let’s try to see if we can do this, and if it works out we can pick a new name each month. I will try to set this up if you all want.  But before I start this I need to know who would be in?  I don’t want to request a name, get a name then they get one little letter :(
Take a look and tell me what you think.
I bet we could do this ladies and how cool for our sailors to get letters from
Navy moms.  Let me know!

WOW - after that it EXPLODED!!

(Our EOD guys might not appreciate that.

Instead of defusing this bomb - they helped it to explode.)

Our first “adoption”, two years ago today, was a group of EOD Sailors (Explosive Ordnance Disposal - technicians tasked to safely dispose of explosive materials.) Boxes went out and “thank you’s” were returned. Well, two years
later her group “Molly’s Adopt a Sailor” wants to celebrate its second birthday
by going back to that same unit!
  We located
one of their “thank you” emails and contact was made.  We asked if they were interested in being  adopted again since they started this endeavor with us.

This was their reply, “Funny you wrote, because I'm over here (Iraq) again. Two of the guys that were with me last year followed me over here again. I guess we can't get enough of each other. First - thank you very much for keeping our spirit alive

in your hearts back home - we feel it every day out here. You and your work are
inspirational!
It's not everyday
people like you take time of their lives to remember us. Believe it or not we'd
still be here even if it we didn't get the support, but it's still nice to see
that someone still cares back home
.

OK... We are leaving next month, but I'm cc'ing a gentlemen that will be my relief here.  I'm also including my Boss who is in contact with his boss.  Long story short... we will try to put you in contact with sailors that will be out here for the next 6 months.
Please know that your hard work and support is very much appreciated and I
would love nothing more than to be sponsored by you folks. Who doesn't like
getting gifts? :) The problem is I feel the men and women staying out here
probably deserve your compassion more than the folks leaving soon.
By all means this is not a missed target, just a targeting adjustment.

HA :0)”

So folks for our July group we are headed back “home” to our original adoptees of two years ago.

Here is a list of “requested” items for these 80 guys and gals:

Things we enjoy, we like to work out, read magazines I would list some specific ones, but we usually get each article. A couple of us are thinking of doing some home buying when we get back so different house magazines are great to read too (I know I sound like Martha Stewart, just not the criminal type) Just

kidding...
We also enjoy movies from the 80's & 90's comedies. Old Chevy Chase,
Steve Martin, John Candy comedies, ect... As far as snacks go we all have sweet
tooth's, enjoy beef jerky, packaged cookies, Star Bucks double shot drinks, Red
Bulls, stuff like that.

We love anything you guys send, homemade foods, movies, magazines, baby wipes, cigars (bad habit but we like 'em), Dunkin Donuts coffee whole bean or ground, old/used movies, #4 cone

coffee filters, gum, whatever you guys would like to send :). There are
currently 7 females on our compound. Anything special for them would be
appreciated.

Here we are - just an appreciative bunch to celebrate with!

Shipping date - the week of July 25th.  Address in "We Ship Love" group.

PS - Happy 46th Birthday, Molly!!!!!!!!

Sally they did it by machine ------- Im not a sawer BUT I can see where they go faster by machine.
It is this 2 strips of material they sew together and make a tube out of it
then they sew this seam about 4 inches from one side ---- you put very few cystals in it (I was really amazed at how few really) then the sew the other side 4 inches from the end and that closes the tube ---- clean up all the threads and Voila its a hug
Im so sorry about your sister ------ my sister and I are very close and I just cant imagine losing her.
HUGS
a THANK YOU from our EOD guys!!

Brenda,

We received 3000 Bunn coffee filters the other day!!! No more overflowing grounds in the coffee! The java nuts are happy! I can't say how impressive that was of you to make that happen. Hopefully there won't be too many more units that have to come here, but it's safe to say they will not be wanting for coffee filters for quite a while. Thank you very much!

I'm forwarding this to Bunn along with this link: Click Here

and this bit of information from Marcy:

Coffee filters ….

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome… Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters..

13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."

15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.

16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors..

17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.

18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.

19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.

20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.. Saves on having extra bowls to wash.

21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.

22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.

23. Use them to sprout seeds. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.

24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book..

25. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.

And they're also great for making coffee!
Ha ha How wonderful Brenda
I think you should tell everything you know So we can move forward with these guys !!!
Im so happy about the filters ----The only thing I have so far is the 80 hugs for them.
have been lazy and not even shopped yet. BUT we do have some letters going out to them from FB friends and moms.
Orders from Headquarters - Last bit of news!!!!

Well, about the same day I emailed Bunn I "googled" cigars and Thompson's Cigars was top of the list - so I emailed them and asked for a donation. Here is their reply:

Hello Mrs. Bourque,

I am sorry I can’t send cigars to your group
(here, my heart fell - but. . . .BS ) , but if you have a soldiers name and APO (AND I DID!!) I will be more then happy to send them one of my packages. I have been sending cigars for over 9 years and have sent over 1 million. My packages are around 300 cigars in each.

Thank You for thinking about us for your needs,

Regards,

Marilyn

I was waiting to hear from our EOD guys to see if they really got 300 - or if this was a typo!!
Haven't heard yet. They may be playing around with the coffee filters. Can you imagine if they found those filters really useful in their "job" - kinda like they have with silly string?
That's awesome!!! Brenda Sue, you rock!
I have 12 DVDs and 31 packs of microwave popcorn ready to go.
Ok Brenda,
I've been trying to think as hard as I can but I can't figure this one out. I have to ask the teacher; what do they do with silly string.
They would shoot it in front of them and if there was a line (line clear fishing wire) to trip a bomb - it would hang on the wire but not set the bomb off.
Brenda,
That is very impressive. How on earth did they think of that. Thanks for letting me know.
Thats a great idea -------- our kids are so darn smart
I am going to be shopping and shipping today --------- I want to go and get about 30 movies to put with the hugs ( I wont do willie wonka bacuse I know they are getting that box) which btw i think is a great funny box
