My son graduates from BC on Aug. 6th and will be staying in GL for A school. He will be an EM. He wrote to me that his A school has been cut from 8 months to 4 months. I need to find out why. His recruiter didn't seem to have any idea. Would love to chat with you :-)
My son just moved from the BC barracks to his A school baracks on Wednesday. This past week he had his inprocessing days to A school. They are looking into getting a strand together for EM. A strand is classes. I will let you know how long his A school is when I find out for sure. He told us it would probably be about 6 months but not sure.

Good luck to your son in BC and BS21. Are you going to attend the graduation ceramony? My son had PIR on 7/9 and it was awesome.

Sorry I can't really help out here but I will update you as I find out myself. If I can help with anything just ask.

Take care, gail
Hi Gail, thanks for the info. YES, I'm attending his PIR, can't wait! Is there air conditioning in the hall that the PIR ceremony is held? Trying to figure out what to wear!! My son is considered Grad & Go.
Yes they have a/c and anything goes as far as what you want to wear. I wore capri's with a nice top and sandals. I wanted to be comfortable. It is a little bit of a walk from the parking lot to the hall and you have to sit in bleachers. You might want to wear comfortable shoes. You will be really impressed with PIR. I know I was. We purchased the DVD. When your son gives you his picture packet they have an order form where you can purchase more pics and the video of PIR. You mentioned your son is a G&G isn't he staying in GL?
I'm so excited for PIR, can hardly wait! I was planning on wearing a sundress w/flat sandals. I am having knee surgery Friday so I won't be wearing high heels anytime soon...LOL. My Dr. promises that I will be able to attend, I told him I would re-schedule my surgery if it was going to get in the way of my trip! Hopefully I'll be off crutches by then too. I'd hate to have to go that distance on those darn things. I had read about the pictures & DVD before my son left for BC and I told him to be sure to order it all. Did you get the photos at his PIR?

Yes, my son is G&G and he is staying in GL. He said that A school has been cut from 8 months to 4 months, I don't know why. Has you son gotten any information about the length of his A school?
Sundress sounds nice. Good Luck with your knee surgery. My husband recently had knee surgery for a torn meniscus. He only needed his crutches for a day. He was up and around in a couple of days.

Yes he gave us the photos on Sat. After PIR we were off base in a matter of minutes. We took him out to eat (Gino's in Chicago) and brought him back to base at 7. He had a 9pm watch. He had liberty on Fri. Sat. & Sun. He wasn't considered a G&G

His schooling is supposed to go until next year some time. Not sure of an exact date. He might get some leave around the holidays to come home.
I don't know where you are staying for PIR weekend but Flanagans restaurant near the base has a very good buffet breakfast. The waitress was very nice and told our son he could take more than 12 minutes to eat. They even had real eggs and good OJ. We took him to Flanagans both Sat. & Sun. he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Just make sure you have him back to base on time because one shipmate was five min. late and received a mid day watch. Our son was very funny about being back on time so he didn't get in trouble. Oh and if you go into Chicago the traffic sometimes is bad so alow plenty of time for your return trip to base. I am so excited for you I wish I can do it all over again. It was one of the best weekends I have ever had.
More than 12 minutes... LOL. I still eat too fast.
Yes more than 12 minutes and real eggs & good OJ. He even got to talk. LOL
That's what I have as well, a torn meniscus. Glad to hear he was up and around so quickly! Nothing is keeping me from PIR!!! My son has told me that he will be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Don't know if that's wishful thinking on his part or if it's fact! Thanks for the restaurant tips, we're staying at the Comfort Inn. We're renting a car at the airport but I read that if we go into Chicage we're better off taking the train, cheaper than paying for parking and finding a parking space! Love N4M's, everyone is so friendly and helpful.
You should be fine with your knee by PIR I work for a hospital and I think its great that so many procedures are laprascopic. Recovery time is minimal.. Train sounds like the way to go into Chicago. We spent a small fortune with parking and eating. As far as leave I don't think they will get that much time to stretch from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Our son said a poosibility of about 2 1/2 weeks at most. It would be nice to see them for the holidays. Whoe knows where they will be stationed after they finish with school. Friday is his 23rd birthday and I sent him a small package of things he asked for but for the most part he said he does get mostly everything at the NEX. One of his shipmates shares the same birthday so they are going to try and spend some time together.
It will be nice when your son starts A school. We hear from our son every day. I say your calling again but he always has something to tell us. I think him calling will calm down when he gets his first phone bill. LOL He has been making purchases at the NEX and had some liberty over the weekend. He really likes being in the navy. Good for him.
