Update June,July,August Groups

1.   June and early July will see us finishing up the Ft Hood unit which is army. Done

 

We are planning to next work on the units of some of our children:

 

2.   Donna's daughter is deployed on the  Truman and is in a squadron of 248:  203 males and 45 females  Our target mailing date is 8-14 to 8-17.

 

3.  August will bring us Cheryl's son, who is on this ship as well. We don't have information on his unit as yet.  We have a new member whose son is also  on this ship.  We'll check that unit out also.  Not doing this group after all.

 

4.  Missouri National Guard.  This is their 4th deployment I believe.  There are 430 and Michele will be heading this one up.  She is hoping to get 300 from her MO contacts and HAE wil do the remaining 130.  I think a July date is planned for mailing. 

 

I need to stress one thing here.  We are not going to do or try to do any one ship.  Especially an aircraft carrier because they are just too big. 

 

The 830 Ft Hood unit is manageable because the contact wanted us to break the mailings down.  But I don't think we as a group want to take on huge projects that create a small time  frame and so much pressure.

 

So this is just a "heads up" of future projects.  Then we can tackle the Lincoln units.  Anyone else with deployed children, let us know in this thread.

Okay, Michele is the coordinator for the MO National Guard unit. She has been waiting until we were done with Ft Hood. WE are! whoohoo! awesome job ladies!

Michele, please clarify about shipping. You are 251 away from the amount needed. Are they in FOBs like the 20th was? Is that why you are mailing some now? do you have a time table for wanting to get them all done?
I can mail some next week as well, but want clarification on that.

Does anyone have any pcs in their stash that aren't committed? Can you send some to this Unit who is on their 4th deployment?

I woke this morning to this email and 2 photos. I have asked persmisson to post them on there. It is of soldiers holding a huge sign that says "Heads at Ease". Made me cry.
I'll repost this and the photos in the J, J, A etc room once she gives permission.

Hi Uncle Joe & Aunt Sue,

I wanted to let you know the AFF and HAE giveaway was a huge success! People were blown away by your generosity. They had a great time picking out the perfect pillowcase and filling it with AFF goodies. I imagine the thank you e-mails will start rolling in if they haven't already. I have attached a couple pictures for each of you. I have many more from the event but it's too much for e-mail so I will burn them to a disc and mail them when I get back to the states.

On a sad note, I am sure you have heard on the news, 2 US Navy personnel went missing from my office last Friday. We learned that one of them (PO Justin) was killed and the other sailor, a friend of mine, was taken into custody by Taliban insurgents. I have been sick about this for days. Jerod and Justin were recipients of AFF goodies and a HAE pillowcase. I ask for your prayers for Jerod's safe return and for Justin's family.

My journey is coming to an end. I am in the midst of outprocessing and will soon begin my journey home. I wanted to thank you both so much for all the support and words of encourgaement you provided during my deployment. That is something I will never forget. Joe, I look forward to seeing you at the aiport! I will let you know a good time as soon as I get one. Sue, I look forward to meeting you one day soon in person!

they wanted, she took a lot of pictures which I am sure she will forward

I got this thank you postcard in the mail the other day. Interesting, it's from the same base that Dawn was at. But his young man is from Tucson and came from a friend at church:

I want to say thank you for the beautiful pillowcase. I read your letter and think your group is doing a great job. What alot of people forget is that the suppor that soldiers get from home keeps them focused in the fight. Thank you so much for your support. Jorge

I mailed these from Birmingham. He got one of top ones in the photo. The other one in the top row went to a sailor on the USS Pelieu, the marines went to a vet, and the bottom one on the right went to an injured soldier from MAS.
