I am finishing my degree as a teacher next year, and if my boyfriend and I get married I would like to be able to work as a teacher on base. Does anyone know how I can find some information on that? I will be certified to teach Elementary/SPED students. I will also have a minor in Spanish. Any advice on how to find information would be very helpful. :)

You go through the Department of Defense Education Activity. As far as I know, they hire stateside for overseas schools, and usually don't use local hires unless there isn't another qualified candidate. They use local hires/CONUS hires for stateside schools. I subbed at a DoDD high school in Japan for seven years. Loved it!

Do you know how far in advance I'd have to apply. The one thing that is frustrating is that he doesn't know where he will be stationed at. So would I just apply to a bunch of Navy bases? Would I have a better chance getting a job if I was a Navy fiance or wife?
Don't apply, because if you are given a position, then refuse it, you might not be able to get in again. They tend to hire the summer before, so you can wait until he gets orders. One strategy is to wait until you're stationed somewhere, then see what the base schools are doing for local hires. A fiancee counts for nothing, sorry. A spouse might have spouse preference, but I'd have to look that up. Now if you were a veteran....

Substitute teaching is brutal, but I really enjoyed it. I didn't have my teaching certificate back then, but did have a degree.
Gah I know it will put a lot of stress on me because we will be getting married and then I will move from Ga to wherever he is. Then he will be leaving me for deployment for 6 months and I really need a job so I don't go crazy since I'll be moving to a new place, and new people. I need something to do. haha
Stateside the majority of schools on base are not DoD schools. I.e. we are at NAS Lemoore and have two schools on base and they are not DoD, but through the county school system.
You could always apply as a sub in the meantime until you can get a FT position someplace.
NAS Lemoore is a beautiful base........... ;->
I know this is slightly off topic, but my sailor and I are stationed in California and there was a job orientation for spouse's held on base and then they had two job workshops and they helped those who came to the orientation and/or workshops find a job tailored to what they had interest in or already had a license to do. Just keep an eye out for those type of programs at your command. They're extremely helpful. Best of luck!
