While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

If you are going into Chicago after PIR
and train outside base took about 1-1 1/2 depending on stops and delays.
Plus you got watch schedule to get you back in time. When road back in
on Sat there was one that left at 7:35 (and we pulled out at 7:40) and
then next one wasnt till 11pm. Even if you drive into Chicago learn bus
routes because it can save you time and parking money ($18 to park most
places).
Expect hour long wait for Sears Tower (unless you purchase tickets online).But was amazing view and Giordano's Famous Chicago
pizza is across street. AMAZING but expect a 45min wait on pizza!
Navy Pier is cool with Bubba Gump restaraunt (bout 30min-hour wait) and the
bay is beautiful but only ride for adults is the Ferris Wheel (40minute
wait for us), and boat tours..thing to know though about Navy Pier that I
didnt know is that there are two clubs there so its the Chicago
nightlife on Fri and Sat evenings beginning at 6.
Tell you the best place was the museum park! You can park and walk to all of it..The
Aquarium, Planetarium, and Field Museum plus it overlooks the bay (again
beautiful) and there's little delis and cafes and Chicago dog stands
with picnic areas to eat and just hang out.
Hope this helps any of you planning your weekend. Best thing is find somewhere to just sit
and enjoy your sailor. He/She hasnt been allowed to talk and they are
looking forward to telling you everything. Make you lists of questions
because Zac loved us asking him all about everything and having the list
will help because believe me you'll be starstruck for first hour or two
:-)

oh you're most welcome..it was like a whirlwind when we got our boy and trying to know what to do and where to go without know how much time it would take where. So I added this to kinda help people plan and not get stuck somewhere and be late with their Sailor. Good luck to your Sailor!!

Did you go to Sears Tower? If so, was it worth the wait and $$? My daughter wants to "see" Chicago after PIR but I do not want to spend what precious time we have standing in lines!
What time was PIR over and your sailor back to you ready to leave for liberty? By noon?
I am trying to plan our day and of course I am sure it will NOT go as planned but to have some type of agenda may be helpful.

This is exactly why I wanted to post this to help others know time and plan. I tried to plan too but without being there you dont know time on traffic and lines and that screwed up all my so thought out planning LOL.
Your daughter will be able to get in free at all the attractions and if you go online and purchase your tickets then no waiting. There is what they call a chicago pass and this gets you in several of the attractions and if you can make alot of them its worth the money.
Yes, we did the Sears Tower and LOVED it. There is the famous Giordano's pizza right across the street, about a 45 min wait on pizza but so YUM and then you can eat and visit before you go over there.
Believe me I understand what you are saying! All I wanted to do was just sit and look at Zac and listen to every story he had cause believe me they havent been allowed to talk much so they going to be ready to talk, or least he was (he's a chatter,lol)
Does your daughter have the whole weekend? Zac only had Fri after PIR for Liberty
PIR was over and we had Zac and on road by 11:30 after all the hugging chatting and walking over toward NEX to wait on him to get his stuff from his ship (you'll have to leave the drill hall within a few minutes of calling liberty). He had to be back to base in his ship by 8 which meant 7 really (took him bout 20min to walk to ship from gate) and with all the Friday traffic just couldnt chance going into Chicago.
