Aren't these just the longest days in your life?  I'm now a mailbox junkie, hangin' out by the box all the time just waiting for that letter!

Does anyone have a son or daughter Ship 6, Div 945?  Being a performance division, I'd love to hear what you know about the workload and their (few) extra privileges.

        Thank you all!

5 months?! Ouch!!
My son's not a writer either. I, too, had sent him stamps, labels with our address and his, envelopes, anything I could think of to simplify his writing to us. Nope, I guess he didn't take the hint! I remind my self that letter-writing isn't what he's there for and when any tid bit does come our way, well then, it's just extra precious! That's why watching the video you sent around, Whaletalkers, hit me so hard. Even though I couldn't find him, I knew he was there somewhere and just seeing who he's been working and playing with all these weeks was a blessing! I hold everyone of our young men and women in prayer every day.
Yes Patricia, wait until he gets home!! LOL I am going to burn his pumpkin pie!! LOL Ok I wont but ITS TEMPTING!! LOL
Have you seen the show 'Christmas with the Kranks'? I understand about the crying and hitting you. when he did call I found my self jumping around the room making all those noises and crying Jamie Lee Curtis did when her show daughter call home!! LOL He was laughing on the other end and yelling " MOM! MOM! CALM DOWN!!" LOL
Hi Everyone,

thanks for the snipets of info about our SR's in the band. My son plays trumpet. Will they still get mail at ship 6 and Div 945 since you mentioned they decommissioned the constitution? Haven't heard from my SR in awhile, but keep sending mail to him. Cant wait for graduation
In a phone call to his GF, our SR said to keep using the same address and things will find their way to him at the new ship. We did notice, though, a subtle change in the zip code. Used to be 60088-3119 and now is 60088-7103. I don't know if that change is for everyone or just a part of the division, so I'd look into it further to be sure if it applies to anyone else.
Yes, they are still ship 6 div 945. I know when my 1st sailor was in I still wrote letter because they were moving over to their rooms, but sometimes they have to stay where they are for a while. Nice to still get mail and it will follow them where they go. No gaps.
Forgive me.. I just looked at my son's letter and it has changed

SR Last, First Name
SHIP 2 USS RUEBEN JAMES
3600 OHIO STREET
GREAT LAKES, IL

I bet that zip code you have Patricia is the right one. You would think they would let us know in a short formal letter so that we could be made aware that is changed midway through their time their. hmmmm
Whaletalkers, just for clarification's sake, does the new address include their division number too? We were using the ship and div numbers under the name all along. And what zip code are you using? I'm feeling torn between using the new address and keeping the old one! Communication was sketchy to begin with and it would be a shame if something as simple as the new address became an issue.
I'm very happy to report I got a letter today. Her return address was Ship 2 Div 945 and everything else was the same as above.
Welcome Desert Girl! What does your SR do in Div 945?
My SR (daughter) plays the flute. From her letters and call, she sounded very happy and upbeat. She did mention about the group being noisy, but her most recent letter (which wasn’t very recent) said things were better. She LOVES the food, but haven’t heard her opinion on the meatloaf. She said the Mexican food was good but could not compare to home (Tucson).
Ha ha! Most Navy Moms say their SRs either love or hate the food. No middle ground there I suppose! I'm glad you say she sounded happy. What a relief for you! My son's a drummer and is also happy. In his earlier letter he said there were no surprises which made me happy to know that BC was what he was expecting. I must say we had a pretty good recruiter and she prepared him (and us) well for what was to come. Until we found her we had had 3 different recruiters. Kept searching until we found someone who sounded like they knew what they were talking about. The ones we had earlier promised us many things we knew they couldn't deliver, just to get him to enlist! Told us things that were flat out false. We're so fortunate to have "shopped around."
We searched things online, but having a recruiter like your son had sounds very fortunate. Shopping around pays off!
Thats how it is. My first Sailor recruiter was a gem but he advanced and left. My second SR enlisted in the DEP program under him and got stuck with who came in afterward and he didnt impress me at all. My SR learned more from his Dad and brother than he did from the recruiter.

My SR met his 'new' recruiter after we came from Sonics and had the tin foil from his sandwich wrap on his head. LOL Recruiter was not impressed then he came and visited his school and saw how professional he was during JROTC. LOL He put him as his commander of his DEP program LOL
