Hi,   My name is Kim...My son is barely 17 still in school....He was actively  being persued by the navy recruiter all week.  He did very well on his ASVABS .  I wasn t sure why things were happening so early since he is a senior now.  and will not be 18 till sept.     Then after one of my sons outings with  recruiter , he came home really really upset  with the recruiter in tow.   My son has been on a med. for a couple different reasons.   nothing  awful , mostly concentration and mood issues.   we had no idea he has to be off meds for a whole year before he can sign up .....   Needless to say , my son was really upset.  BUT     in actuallity in only sets him back a few months because hes not 18 till sept.  so after we   told him that , I think he felt beter , but were not really sure what the hurry is.... so , now hes gonna have to get a car , somehow, and work after school ends untill he can sign up . Which isnt a big deal, but we live in middle of  no where , so he will have to go to nearest city to work. THe recruiter  will continue to see him at  school and check up on him etc, but its a little disappointing as he thinks they dont want him now......We have already started weaning him off the med, have dr apt tuesday , at this time I dotn know what to say to him to make him feel better .     I am assuming that when he gets close to him year date off med, that the recruiter will get the ball rolling again.    Our family just pretty much has the idea , whats the hurry , the navys not going anywhere, but my son I think feels like hes "different "  , or that hes let us or recruiter down.....    I have a million questioins about the sign up process , and  what to ask recruiter and boot camp etc.  I hope I can find a few friends on here to help us......thanks for listening..

The whole meds thing can can be an issue. He will have to get a waiver for it at MEPS as well and that may delay things as well. Just tell him to hand in there and he needs to start running and getting ready. The timed run seems to be the hardest thing for them to pass.

He needs to start taking vitamins and builiding up his immnune system,..many recruts get sick in boot camp "ricky crud"

I left you a greeting message on your profile...scroll down to read comments left for you on your comment wall. There is info there that may be helpful. There is a lot of info here ...just have to look for it. Use the search mode
can they bring vitamins to boot camp with them? or supplements? what about over the counter meds?? What the heck is "ricky crud" LOL..... This is my first time using this site, so im sorry if Im buggin you...just getting the feel of things.
No meds or vitamins allowed.

Ricky crud is what they call the illness that alot of them get...resp inf, runny nose, fever, some get N/V/D..but more cough, cold, sinus stuff.

Ricky is the nickname for recruit
You are not bugging me at all. PLEASE ask questions. Any knowledge or info you get will make transition to boot camp easier. Got o your page and scroll down to read comments left for you. I left you a greeting message with links and other info that may be helpful to the both of you.

Has he been to MEPS yet?
also what is MEPS??? Im really new at this military thing....Like i said i have a million questions...
MEPS is Military Entrance Processing Station that is where they go for their physical, vision, hearing, etc. also have to answer questions about their past history. Usually go up the night before and then it is all day... alot of waiting around as well
As was said, even after he is off the meds for a year, he will have to get a waiver. Than after that is all approved there is a chance that it will be almost a year before he ships off to bootcamp so you could be looking at about two years or longer.
I heard the navy gives out meds to help with mood issues and ptsd so why can't people join if they where on the meds.
