"Darkhorse" is the name given to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, the most highly decorated regiment in the Marines.  These young men are currently serving in Afghanistan.  There are five companies in this battalion and this represents a large number of Marines who would appreciate any love we can send their way.

Weapons Company received several care packages in December and then HAE moved on to Lima Company.  When all have finished up mailing their boxes, Lima Company will be put to "bed."  The next, and probably last company, we will do is Kilo Company.  There are about 170 Marines in this group, all males.  The mailing date for Kilo Company is February 7.   This should give us enough time to get sufficient pillowcases ready for mailing.  As with every project, we need to have sufficient pillowcases for each Marine in the company to receive one.

For OPSEC reasons, I would appreciate your letting me know via PM (make me a friend on N4M if I am not already one) the number of pillowcases you will send in your box.

Sue sent me this "Semper Fi" poster.  I watched the video about the Marines in Bethesda.  The attitude of the Marines who have suffered terrible injuries is absolutely amazing.  Here is a link with a video of Kilo Company.

Sure, they are hand decorated.  Just make sure that at least one side can be used for sleeping, i.e., "softy."  I'll put you down for 10.  Thanks.

thanks Shirley.  and they are nice Dori.  She had one made for Ben.  Dori will give it to you when it's time to mail in a personal email.  we always do it that way.  mostly I send the addresses, but Dori will this time.  That way we can keep track of who sent what.

Oh, I saw a picture of the one you made for Ben.  It IS very nice.  I will put you down for 11.  I will e-mail the address to you around January 8.  Thanks.

Wow, I made it into the first line of a poem and here I was AWOL. We just got of the ship and are traveling home. We should be there on Wednesday evening. Before you ask, Florida was Cold, the western Caribbean was Cold, I got the dreaded stomach virus on the ship and then gave it to my husband. All and all an interesting vacation.

Now to more important matters. I've got 40 pillowcases ready to go. I have an entire box of soaps and snacks (can't remember which ones right now.) So, you can send me an address on my PM. Soooo, glad to be back! Since no one is coming home for Christmas, I'll be able to get some serious sewing done.

Forgot to ask, How many do we need to finish Lima Company?

About 100, assuming we all get back into the swing of things.  I haven't sewn for a while because of Christmas but will soon.

I am so sorry that you did not have perfect sailing, perfect health and warm balmy weather.  I do hope that some of it was enjoyable.  At least you weren't adrift with no engine, or at least I didn't read about it.  And you were not swamped with high seas.

No, it wasn't all bad. We had lovely beaches to look at instead of snow. We also had a wonderful time checking out all the decorations at the Disney Parks and resorts.

So, now you only need 60 more.

sounds good Lyn.  I'd rather look at beaches than snow any day.  I love snow, when I am in the mood.  about 1 x in every ten years.  haha,.

I was glad to hear that some of you  are sending packages without pillowcases. That way I can concentrate on getting as many pillowcases in a box as I can. I won't feel guilty that I haven't added snackes or other items because I know you guys have that handled.

Coffee is a great idea! Hadn't thought of that.

I got another box of candy sent to the Weapons Company today. I'll need to get more info on how many pc's to send, just as soon as I get them finished.

In the past the guys have asked for seasonings to add to the MREs. They have a bunch of different ones at the Dollar Store.
seasonings are good.  I try to include those too.
